NCIS has some big changes ahead. The CBS drama is moving to a new night after 18 years and star Mark Harmon will likely have a reduced role on the series.
CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl spoke about Harmon’s role in the upcoming 19th season, per Deadline:
“Mark’s always been part of the show, Mark’s always going to be part of the show. In terms of his on-air appearances, we’re just going to have to see how it plays out going forward.”
At the end of last season, Gibbs’ boat exploded and Harmon’s character could be seen swimming away. Viewers will find out about his fate in the early episodes of season 19. As far as the show’s move from Tuesday to Monday nights, Kahl said the following, per TV Line:
“We hope to improve the [Monday] time period significantly, and we hope that it can be a strong lead-in to help launch NCIS: Hawai’i…. We realize that we can’t take [the time slot change] for granted. We have to help educate people and let them know where it’s moving to.”
NCIS returns to CBS on Monday, September 20th.

Yes! With or without Mark Harmon and on whatever night, I’ll be watching. It is the only show I always want to be home for! A history of great characters that I expect will continue.
I love NCIS! Yes, I will still watch with or without Mark Harmon. The writing is still fabulous and the other actors are wonderful. The character development of ALL the characters is what has made this show so interesting for so long.

Pretty much getting NCIS cancelled. They take Gibbs away or cut down his appearances replaces him so to speak and now this. In my opinion if Gibbs mark Harmon is not on the show it ain’t worth watching. Hell Abby leaving messed it up for me to begin with now Gibbs. RIP NCIS at least I will have the reruns and my disks.
I plan to keep watching. Hopefully I’ll like it as much as before. I do understand that Mark may be getting closer to wanting to retire.
Will definitely watch NCIS any day or time. However will be sad that Mark Harmon will not be as frequent. He is my main reason for watching although the rest of the cast are great
I doubt that we will watch if Mark isn’t on. We always watch Football on Monday night so we will record and watch on Tuesday like we have for 18 years! I’m sure he’s ready to retire and enjoy his family. It just won’t be the same. I don’t know if Hawaii will be as good as the original, but time will tell.

I’ve been a fan since day one. However, Mark Harmon has been the pivotal, anchor, character. His reduced appearances will minimize the storyline. And never, ever, in TV history, has a show ever survived when moved from it’s long-time, successful timeslot. I predict ratings will drop and this will, sadly, be its last season.

Not sure if I will keep watching if Mark Harmon is not there. He is NCIS.
