NCIS has some big changes ahead. The CBS drama is moving to a new night after 18 years and star Mark Harmon will likely have a reduced role on the series.
CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl spoke about Harmon’s role in the upcoming 19th season, per Deadline:
“Mark’s always been part of the show, Mark’s always going to be part of the show. In terms of his on-air appearances, we’re just going to have to see how it plays out going forward.”
At the end of last season, Gibbs’ boat exploded and Harmon’s character could be seen swimming away. Viewers will find out about his fate in the early episodes of season 19. As far as the show’s move from Tuesday to Monday nights, Kahl said the following, per TV Line:
“We hope to improve the [Monday] time period significantly, and we hope that it can be a strong lead-in to help launch NCIS: Hawai’i…. We realize that we can’t take [the time slot change] for granted. We have to help educate people and let them know where it’s moving to.”
NCIS returns to CBS on Monday, September 20th.
What do you think? Are you planning to keep watching NCIS on Monday nights? Will you continue to watch if Harmon isn’t on the series as much?
I think Mark is the main one in the show; but I also miss Tony, Ziva, Abby, and Dr. Mallard. I still enjoy the show, but I think the originals were better. If Gibbs leaves I wouldn’t keep the NCIS name to the show.
I go to sleep at 9:00! I’ll try to stay awake for the 1st episode and see how it goes. I’ve been watching from the beginning and hate to see the change. There aren’t many shows that I can stand. Hate reality shows!
I enjoyed watching NCIS and as much as I have enjoyed Mark Harmon, one person does not make or break a show. It’s the story line and all the key players. Instead of replacing “Gibbs” with another, a more prudent move may have been to bring back a much loved character – “Ziva or Tony” would have been my choice to smooth out the transition. I will continue to watch as long as long as the action and characters continue to interest me – full disclosure I do have some reservations.
I love NCIS and will continue to watch it. Mark Harmon is great but the other cast members are great too and coming into their own. Before saying no to watching, )give it a chance.
I love this show, but if Mark Harmon is not in it, I don’t think I’ll tune in. I don’t feel the other characters would make it without him. He’s the mainstay. As far as it airing on Mondays, makes no difference to me personally. I do like that former FBI Agent Tobias Fornell is returning. Keep the fans happy!!
This move shows how totally stupid the executives at CBS are. The stock holders should vote them OUT. NCIS “is” CBS. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
With no mark Harman, no watch. Obviously the cbs execrs don’t have a clue—-wow, pitiful!
No Mark Harmon, not watching.
I would rather see mark harmon on full time and if he was not on I would not watch
We’ve always enjoyed NCIS. If the Monday night slot interferes with a must-watch Monday night Football, we’ll tape it. If the cast and script are good with less Gibbs, we’ll watch it; if not, we probably will not. 18 years plus is a long time for a program run- Gibbs probably may be wanting to do something else or retire. 🙂
Should be NCIS @ 8PM, Hawaii @ 9PM, LA @10PM.
Put the 2 comedies on Sunday.
Game over.
Yes ,I love ncis and I will keep watching , I watch repeats all the time
I’ll always watch the show but wish it would stay on Tuesday.
I’ve always liked the show, not all the characters thats guest stared but the show is good. Miss last ladies that’s left. It will be fine. Gibbs & his wife good on show. I watch it on all channels now why not on Monday night & new one too.
Mark’s always been part of the show, Mark’s always going to be part of the show. In terms of his on-air appearances, we’re just going to have to see how it plays out going forward.” Translation: “If people still watch we’ll keep it, if they don’t respond to the new crappy time slot and less Gibbs, we will cancel it. “
