For the first time in its long history, NCIS has moved out of its traditional Tuesday night timeslot. It also looks like viewers will be seeing less of series star Mark Harmon this season. Is this the beginning of the end for one of CBS’ most popular series or, is it just the start of a new chapter? Could the ratings improve? Will NCIS be cancelled or renewed for season 20? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.
A procedural drama, the NCIS TV show stars Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Katrina Law, Rocky Carroll, David McCallum, and Gary Cole. Star Mark Harmon departed with episode four. On the series, NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Harmon), a former Marine gunnery sergeant whose skills as an investigator are unmatched, leads a highly skilled and colorful group of professionals. The team includes NCIS Special Agent Timothy McGee (Murray), an MIT graduate with a knack for computers who is now a Senior Field Agent; NCIS Special Agent Nicholas “Nick” Torres (Valderrama), who frequently goes undercover; and NCIS Special Agent Jessica Knight (Law), a formidable REACT agent who specializes in hostage negotiations high-risk operations. The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances of survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
5/24 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: Season 18 of NCIS on CBS averaged a 0.81 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.48 million viewers.
Note: These are the final national ratings, including all live+same day viewing and DVR playback (through 3:00 AM). Early fast affiliate ratings (estimates) are indicated with an “*”. While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like the NCIS TV series on CBS? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a 20th season?
*4/1/2022 update: NCIS has been renewed for a 20th season on CBS.
I like the new NCIS. Do not like the new time frame. Just does not mesh well with other Monday night shows.
Please boost your ratings look forward to seeing it every Monday crime drama. Look forward to seeing it every Monday night. Enjoy it and love it. Never missed any episodes of it.
Anyone know about the 19th season?
We are only 10 eps out of 24 in, and they came back for only 1 episode in the last 4 months, so is it cancelled or not?
CBS released nine episodes, took a month off for the holidays, and has now started releasing new episodes again. It’s a typical network schedule. It hasn’t been cancelled.
Would love to see a Ziva/Tony comeback to the lead agents. We need to see some stronger story lines minus Gary Cole
The new season sucks. The plots are weak and it’s more like some kind of ‘family’ drama show. They should play violin music in the background. Will somebody please use Rule #9 and take a knife to the script? Cancel NOW and stick with the reruns.
If Gibbs isn’t coming back as a regular on NCIS cancel it!
Best show on Monday nights.
Which tells you something about Monday night shows.
Truth is NCIS has enough left in it to do a 20th season, but I wouldn’t bet on a 21st.
I’ve liked Cole in the past, but he comes off more like a Tobias than a Jethro. Knight is a very lovely girl, but for this too lovely. Kate and Ziva, and Eli were not model beauties so they were much more plausible. Kasie is cutie but a little too bubbly and not very analytical. Realize Harmon is in his 70s, and probably would like to retire; but without him and the slap on the head and the no-nonsense attitude, The show was just so-so.
Shame to see Gibbs (Harmon) go. I hate to see series not get tied off without a proper finale. The evolution of McGee (Murray) from probie to senior field agent was fantastic. Ziva and Tony need to cameo to wrap up their relationship in a nice bow which by far would make it better. If their should be a season 20 which I am ALL FOR make it the final season. It’s a show that has spanned two decades and, there is no show that could match that with actuality and characters that could be related to.
Though I will miss Mark Harmon and have never enjoyed watching Gary Cole, to my surprise, his first solo episode was classic NCIS and fun to watch. His interaction with Kasie was my favorite.
Agree with you Mark Harmon is the best in St. elsewhere, Chicago Hope, Reasonable Doubt, Flamingo Road old classics drama 1980’s and early 1990’s always enjoy watching him. Gary Cole not same crime drama like it was for 18 sold years NCIS only one.
Renew for season 20
Agree with you best and favorite crime shows.
Mark Harmon left NCIS after 18 years 19 seasons I understand he wanted to retire things don’t last forever nothing really does last in this messed up world it just sucks that NCIS won’t be the same I really hope the show won’t get cancelled after Season 19. I hope the director and writers can bring back DiNozzo & Ziva David this is the only way to save the views from failing miserably since Gibbs no longer on the show
Please boost your ratings look forward to seeing it every day. Enjoy it and love it. Never missed any episodes of it. Mark Harmon will missed age 75 need retirement good characters for over decades. I appreciate his work a lot.
Mark Harmon is 70 years old. He was born September 1, 1950
Show w/o MH is like the geico commercial with the man checking out the attic and finding Weird Odd stuff that he just Bought: NOPE No Thank you!!!
Show is over!
Just Stop Now!!!
In the 18 years of NCIS there have been many story lines with their actors enticing you back to see what happens to whom – some better than others pulling at your emotions – with their intrigue, mystery, love, heartbreak – all portrayed by a small core group led by a rule making team leader. Mark Harmon -“Gibbs”. Change to that core is not easily accepted but season 19 – E2 & 3 is really disappointing. This story line of trashing “Gibbs” reputation as he is on his way to “retirement” is a sure-fire way to lose viewing audience. Gary… Read more »
Unfortunately I didn’t think it was up to it’s old standards. The story was idiotic… he got his boat out of the basement w/no explanation then, with a piece of wood stuck in him swims to shore????? Absurd! Then they brought in those semi hillbillies that locked him in their barn? Why? I lost interest after I knew Ellie was gone…. really liked her character & the match up. I wasn’t much of a Gibbs fan before, but now that he brought his wife on the show I like his character even less, talk about nepotism. Make up you mind,… Read more »
Good start this season look for rest of the season.
