In its first season, despite having NBC’s biggest scripted series, This Is Us, as a lead-in, the ratings for the New Amsterdam series dropped pretty low. It was still renewed for a second season. Will the numbers improve in year two or, drop even lower? Will New Amsterdam be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A medical drama series, New Amsterdam stars Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher, and Tyler Labine. Doctor Max Goodwin (Eggold) is a caring physician whose goal is to fix a broken medical system and to provide exceptional care to the people who need it most. He inspires (almost) everyone around him, and will stop at nothing to breathe new life into the understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated New Amsterdam Medical Center. Those working with Goodwin include Dr. Lauren Bloom (Montgomery), the head of the ER; oncologist Dr. Helen Sharpe (Agyeman); cardiovascular surgeon Dr. Floyd Reynolds (Sims); psychiatrist Dr. Iggy Frome (Labine); and Dr. Vijay Kapoor (Kher), head of the Neurological Department.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

What do you think? Do you like the New Amsterdam TV series on NBC? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
*1/11/20 update: NBC has renewed New Amsterdam for three additional years — seasons three, four, and five — which will take it through the 2022-23 television season.
A lot of new medical shows on lately. I love New Amsterdam. Although the finale of season 1 was much better, when the accident happened at the end, season 2s was much milder. However it was cut short due to the CV and thru no fault of it’s own. I look forward to all the next season’s .
I love the idea of hospitals actually caring about people, in general and their patients without waiver. Its uplifting and I wait patiently every week for the episodes..hope it is not cancelled.
Show has incredible storylines and we enjoy show and all the characters!!
After the incest episode I haved cancelled it from my watch list.
A B S O L U T E L Y agree with you. I enjoyed the show’s diversity and story lines … for the most part, but the INCEST episode – I’m done with them.
Really, are you afraid of real life stories. That crap happens so get over it. Life isn’t always happy for everyone.
Its reality..it happens..its sad you’re living in your own little bubble.
I love this show, just started watching it and I been glued to the tv ever since. We need more seasons!! Nothing like doctors that care.
