The Night Sky series has been sunset. Prime Video has cancelled the science-fiction show so there won’t be a second season.
A drama, the Night Sky TV show stars Sissy Spacek, J.K. Simmons, Chai Hansen, Kiah McKirnan, Julieta Zylberberg, Rocío Hernández, and Adam Bartley. Spanning space and time, the story follows Irene (Spacek) and Franklin York (Simmons). Years ago, the couple discovered a chamber buried in their backyard which inexplicably leads to a strange, deserted planet. They’ve carefully guarded their secret ever since, but when an enigmatic young man (Hansen) enters their lives, the Yorks’ quiet existence is quickly upended. The mystifying chamber they thought they knew so well turns out to be much more than they could ever have imagined.
Co-produced by Amazon Studios and Legendary Television, the series debuted on May 20th and all eight episodes were released the same day. Deadline reports that, while the series garnered positive reviews, Night Sky didn’t attract a large enough audience to justify the high-cost investment of making a second season of this sci-fi series.
While the show didn’t attract a large enough audience on Earth, perhaps the series might find more appreciation in other parts of the universe.
Prime Video, in conjunction with Amazon Web Services, SES, and Intelsat, beamed the first episode of the sci-fi drama series into outer space just in time for the series premiere. This marks not only the farthest distance from the earth that a TV series has been distributed but also makes Prime Video the first streamer to distribute its content directly into space.

Can’t believe they cancelled this series before any time was given to see what the long term audience was. I just started watching at the end of August and have now finished it. I give it a very high rating and would have jumped on a series two and told all my friends about it. For me, it wasn’t slow – it’s not really a science fiction series although there is that. I SEE WHEAR THIS SHOW IS CANCELED. I AM VERY DISAPOINTED AS THE SHOW CAPTURED MY ATTENTION AND I WAS HOOKED FROM THE FIRST EPISODE. IT IS VERY WELL DONE. I LOVE SISSY SPACEK’S ROLE AS IRENE. I WRIGHT TO YOU TO ASK YOU TO RECONSIDER. I HATE BEING LEFT WITH A CLIFHANGHR!
You need to give a series time to build an audience. We just discovered it yesterday. Would love to see a second season. You did a poor job of promoting it!
Unique Plot, Great Acting – I want more!
Night Sky was a delight to watch. Shame as I was looking to a second series.
Disappointed to find yet another wonderful story cut off in the middle. These streaming platforms are producing some of the best new shows. But then they cut them off with no care whatsoever for their audience. I’m very tired of watching a series only to have it end unresolved. Streamers, this is why your original series don’t do as well as they could — we don’t trust you!
Very disappointed. Great story. Great acting. Too bad too many people don’t have the attention span for a strong story told well, without firing on all cylinders all the time. Ooh…another shiny thing over there…

Seriously disappointing decision. There are way too many programs with little or no intelligence. Night Sky was a glowing exception. It will be missed.
