ABC had high hopes for Off the Map, their new medical drama from veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. Unfortunately things didn’t go as planned and ABC has now cancelled Off the Map after one season on the air.
Off the Map follows the lives of six doctors who have “lost their way” and have traveled to a remote South American jungle to try to rediscover why they wanted to become physicians.
The TV series’ cast includes Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The TV series premiered to a disappointing 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The show won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. As a result, ABC reran the premiere Off the Map the following night.
For whatever reason, subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Despite having some very passionate fans, Off the Map ended up being one of the lowest dramas on ABC. It’s no surprise then that the network has now decided against ordering a second season, cancelling the show. All 13 episodes have aired and we likely won’t find out what became of the young doctors left in the jungle.
What do you think? Are you sorry there won’t be a second season of Off the Map? Why do you think Off the Map didn’t catch on? Is it better than the other medical dramas?

Darn. I liked working on it, apart from the 40 minute commute each way. Good easygoing cast, great crew.
Now I got to go find another job!
My mom and I are very upset to see this go!!!!! We loved Off the Map!! Now we really don’t have anything to watch on Wednesday nights.
SO UPSET. I love off the map and really want to find out what happened!
Great show! VERY disappointed to hear that this show was cancelled.
PLease bring Off the Map back. You have a huge following here in the Middle East, and we are desperately waiting to see what happens!!!!!!! Don’t do this to us, leaving us in terrible limbo. We love Off The Map.
This is total crap. That was an amazing show! Maybe if they put it at a better time slot then people would actually watch it instead of recording it on DVR!!
When shows are a bit different even when they are good they normally get cancelled. How many doctor shows have you ever seen in the middle of a jungle?
I am so disappointed that Off the Map has been cancelled!!! I was shocked that my husband really liked this show a lot. He really enjoyed it!!! We really enjoyed watching this show together. I thought the show had a little bit of everything. There was action, comedy and romance. Plus some beautiful scenery. ABC ya’ll should just shut your whole studio down. So many of your really big shows being cancelled. What the heck are you going to have left for people to watch? Obviously you do not care what the people want. So what’s the point? I say shut… Read more »
Too many mistakes at the beginning killed OTM. Ridiculous medical errors and assumptions…what a waste of talent . Mamie Gummer from The Good Wife, Caroline Dhavernas from Wonderfalls, and the Friday Night Lights guy – still nothing. Nothing was going to stop this train wreck of a “medical” show.
i stopped watching it after the 4th episode. it got too predictable.
Well there goes my watching anything on abc
Off The Map was must see tv at my house, so I am sorry to see it go. On the bright side, it will be a lot easier to boycott ABC after my soaps are done.
Off the Map was one of the best series on TV. Hopefully one of the cable networks will pick itup.
I AM SO DISAPPOINTED THAT OTM WAS CANCELLED. IT WAS AN EXCELLENT SHOW.
Please bring it back. Please film another season. WE LOVE OFF THE MAP!!!
Bad decision. Bad marketing. I’m not one to care much about television programming, but I’m so mad about this that I’m not longer going to watch anything that ABC airs.
