The little sitcom that caused a lot of controversy last summer has quietly ended its run. NBC has cancelled Outsourced after one season on the air.
Outsourced follows a US sales manager, Todd Dempsey (Ben Rappaport), who’s assigned to supervise his company’s call center in India. The sitcom also stars Anisha Nagarajan, Diedrich Bader, Parvesh Cheena, Pippa Black, Rebecca Hazelwood, Rizwan Manji, and Sacha Dhawan.
The NBC sitcom started out decently and it looked like NBC might have a keeper on its hands. Last September, Outsourced debuted to a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.49 million viewers. In week two, the demo number fell 22% to a 2.8 rating and 5.85 million viewers but that was still pretty healthy by NBC standards.

Unfortunately, over the course of the season, the ratings just kept dwindling downward. The ratings have gone as low as a 1.4 in the demo with just 2.97 million viewers. Those are horrible numbers for a major network, even NBC.
Outsourced’s season currently averages a 2.1 demo rating and 4.55 million viewers. For NBC, that’s not too bad but the average is only that high because of the early season ratings.
It’s certainly not a shocker than NBC has cancelled Outsourced after just one season. The 22nd and final episode, titled “Rajiv Ties the Bharat, part two,” aired last night.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that there won’t be a second season of Outsourced? Why do you think the TV show didn’t catch on?

This show is absolutely hilarious. I just finished watching the entire first season over the past few days and just fell in love with the characters. I think the reason it failed is because of its time slot. When they moved the show to 9:30, I couldn’t watch it because I had to be to work early the next day and I had been waiting for the 1st season to come out on DVD so I could catch up with what happened. Much to my surprise, this is when I learned there would be no season II. I really think… Read more »
I can’t believe this very funny show was cancelled.
All the t.v. executives care about is $$. They all could care less about a very good t.v. show that offers comedy and enjoyment to their viewers.
Outsourced was simply ahead of its time and will be appreciated in the years to come.
This was the 1 t.v. show on NBC I was looking forward to the most.
NBC has let me down and that is something I won’t forget anytime soon.
Outsourced was by far the funniest sitcom I have seen in a long long time. I am so disappointed that its been cancelled. Besides funny, it highlights the glaring differences between eastern and western cultures, beliefs and ethics. Too often these differences causes tension and to a large degree conflict of some nature or another. I think there should be more sitcoms like Outsourced, an opportunity to laugh at ourselves and learn about other cultures.
My husband and I love the show! So dissappointed that it’s cancelled! The show was so funny, witty and entertaining. I didn’t think it was offensive, it’s just showing the life in India! Please bring back the show, ans run it little earlier then. We used to stay up and watch it. It’s a true mistake.
My husband and I absolutely loved this show, especially since the last season of The Office was not nearly as funny as it used to be. This was the only show we really looked forward to for the hilarity it evoked. The acting was superior and it was a true comedy. I had recorded some of the shows and saved them for awhile, but erased them this week thinking that the show would return. Now I wish I had saved them. Please bring back this show. 10:30 is too late for this kind of show..most people are already getting ready… Read more »
My husband and I looked forward to Outsourced every week. We were disappointed that they moved it to a much later time slot.
Please BRING IT BACK! The new shows are horrible. The cast was perfect and very funny. They worked magic on the show.
The reason why we have a dumbed down society is because of the stupid shows executives allow to air. This show was FANTASTIC with a touch or reality. It showed a different culture and the writers were great in ensuring they walked the line of comedy and not offending a different culture.
WHY would they get rid of a show that is so cool. I loved this show and I cannot stand NBC anymore because they have a bunch of the same shows and the reason they will continue to lose viewers is because of disappointing them…..
We loved Outsourced. We watched every week. It was a show that had some creativity to it, and went above the waist for it’s humor. BRING BACK OUTSOURCE!!!!!!
I loved outsourced and it was one of the truly really funny sitcoms out there. I will miss it so much. We should all write to NBC to complain
I am sooooooooooooo disappointed!! This was the best show I have seen in a lo0o0o0o0og time. I cannot believe this awesome show has cancelled. I am so bummed. Damn those ratings. I know many, many people that will certainly miss this outstanding TV show! 🙁
I also think that was the funniest show. it wasn’t offensive or making fun. we allow other stupid shows to run season after season that are so dumb they make us look unintelligent as Americans way more than outsourced could. it had jokes every average American would joke about like getting sick from eating food in India. it’s like telling someone not to drink water from Mexico or milk straight from the cow. sorry our bellys just aren’t used to it it’s not making fun. I vote to bring the show back. shame on you NBC. maybe it would have… Read more »
We want to continue watching Outsourced. place it on Demand for a month and see how many viewers watches it then.
I learned about the show from my 22 yearnold niece who watches it with all her friends on campus. They said it was the best remedy from stressful life at College. Why should NBC do that?
I know it’s about ratings for the networks, but I wonder how they think a show that airs on Thursday night at 10:30pm could get a rating higher than what they expect. My two teenagers love the show so much, that we had outsourced parties with friends at my home where we watched on Demand every Sunday evenings. We would watched past episodes over and over again. We can repeat certain catchy phrases from every episodes. “who wants a taste, who wants a taste, who wants a taste of Gupta” “5, 6, 7, 8………..dance Guptaetc…… It is absurd that networks… Read more »
We currently live overseas and Outsourced was seriously one of the few shows our entire family enjoyed and looked forward to each week! I am so disappointed that NBC has cancelled it! Ratings…schmatings! We have talked to so many people that have not only enjoyed the laughs they gained from Outsourced but they began to truly “require” that laughter! How do we get this show back on TV? Help!
Noooooo!!!! The hubs and I LOVED this show!!!! Very funny!
