What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the Showtime cable channel, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels stars Nathan Lane, Natalie Dormer, Daniel Zovatto, Kerry Bishé, Rory Kinnear, Adriana Barraza, Michael Gladis, Jessica Garza, and Johnathan Nieves. It’s set in 1938 Los Angeles, a time and place deeply infused with social and political tension. The series follows earnest Detective Tiago Vega (Zovatto), the LAPD’s first Latino detective, and his seasoned partner, Lewis Michener (Lane). Telly’s Take
Will Showtime cancel or renew Penny Dreadful: City of Angels for season two? The original Penny Dreadful series survived to see three seasons and did pretty well for this channel. This version got off to a poor start and isn’t doing very well in the ratings but I think it may still be renewed. I’ll update this page with breaking developments. What do you think? Were you hoping the Penny Dreadful: City of Angels TV show would be renewed for a second season? Are you sorry that Showtime cancelled this TV series, instead?
I love this series. Please do not cancel! There are so many story lines I want to see explored! I’m invested in these characters and the show has made quarantine bearable! But who will replace Molly!!!! Or Fly Rico! What a turn—that Mr Zoot Suit would be do noble! Please renew! By the way I have a masters in English from Columbia so I knew good writing. I even like the shifty Nazi Gos! I can’t think of one character I’m not intrigued with! Peter Krupt is fascinating! I kept waiting for Wernher Von Braun to come up and then… Read more »
Excellent hope there’s a season 2
Amazingly well done show. The story was great and all the characters were interesting. I hated to see it end and really hope there will be additional seasons
Love this show, I really hope it gets renewed. The two main characters is a perfect match, and so many layers in the show.
I love this show I hope that it is renewed people watch TV different these days you need to give it a chance for it to catch on before you decide to cancel .
Love this show!!! Hoping for season 2!!!
Fabulous. I hope it comes back.
This is a multi-generational winner for my family appealing to the octogenarian, baby boomers and the Gen Xer. A bit of history wrapped in a twisty plot supported by superb acting. Killing off Sister Molly allows the writers to align the Nazi-LA cabal story line more closely to actual historical events through the characters played by Nathan Lane and Brad Garrett. Especially, since Garrett’s character moved to Beverly Hills- bring in Louis Meyer and Co.!
As a Mexican-American I was really excited to watch this show, the culture, the folklore, the big name actors; I was waiting for something like this to come along. So far it’s been really disappointing. Too many plot holes, when are they going to get to the spooky scary stuff? It should have just been a drama about 1930’s race wars., I mean that’s pretty much what it is. No need for the demon, really. It’s also clear they didn’t have a cultural consultant on the show, which is pretty annoying considering Hollywood is in…you know…Southern California…where there’s a lot… Read more »
100% correct here. Not Latino myself but I was hoping to see the characters, lore, and supernatural history of the Latin/Central American point of view. The first Penny Dreadful was amazing. It told the story of fairly well known European literary supernatural characters while also blending them into a coherent story and keeping fairly accurate to the time period and culture. I was hoping this would be similar just with less world known characters though I do know of Santa Meurte. But what we got was a bastardization of Mexican culture for the most part. Nothing of note when it… Read more »
Loved the show!!!!Sure hope it comes back .
Yes, please renew. Would like to see a 2nd season of City of Angels. Very well done. Hope Penny Dreadful stories continue for years!
My wife and I looked forward to each new episode, we love the show. I think it is enormously better than the original Penny Dreadful, my wife agrees but she liked the original more than I did ( although she did not ever get around to viewing season 3….).
We would like to see a season 2!
I really got into this show. With a little bit of everything old LA and different cultures and religions. All these amazing actors!! Natalie Dormen is amazing all the parts she plays wonderfully. And sooo talented Nathen Lane. Everyone is so good. I hope it continues.
My husband and I loved the original Penny Dreadful series with Josh Hartnett and Eva Greene and I must admit we were a bit skeptical when we learned about the new series. Boy, we certainly are glad that we didn’t discount the show after the first episode. It might have started out a bit slow, but as far as we’re concerned it picked up the pace and drew us in completely. All in all, the season as a whole turned out to be quite good. From what I’ve been reading, it looks as if possibly some of its critics were… Read more »
