NBC has been promoting Persons Unknown as a mini-series and that the show’s mysteries will be answered by the end. The show has not performed well in the ratings so hopefully the network will let all 13 episodes air.
If they do pull the series early, the show is scheduled to be put out on DVD. According to Amazon, it’s scheduled for an August 31st release but that’s likely to change because NBC won’t have aired all of the episodes until early September.
Some readers have noticed that the DVD set is titled Persons Unknown: The Complete First Season. Why? Because, though NBC has promoted it as a mini-series, Persons Unknown could continue for a second season.
Executive Producer Remi Aubuchon recently told Collider that, when they were shooting it, they did so believing it would be an on-going series. Though they wanted it to go on, he made sure that they answered all of the questions by the end of the first season, to make it a satisfying story for viewers.
Could there be another season? Aubuchon said, “It’s not unheard of, in the course of life, that if there’s enough interest in it, we could consider going a second season or doing another chapter. I keep looking at it as books in a series, and this season is the first book. I feel confident that we will have a beginning, middle and end, in this season, and it was wise of NBC to then call it what it really is, which is a mini-series.”
He continued, “24 is a really good example, in that there was a definitive beginning, middle and end for the first season. They had a slightly different format than we have, but the second season just retained Jack Bauer and a few other players, with the same basic format and idea, but it was a completely different show. I’m not saying that that’s exactly where we’re going, but certainly I think that there’s room for saying, ‘Hey, look, we told one story of a continuing saga.’ You should be able to pick this book up and get to the last line of the season and go, ‘Wow! Well, I hope there’s a second season, but at least I feel satisfied that I got to see all of this. They answered it all for me.”
Unfortunately, it looks unlikely that NBC would be interested in another season but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t return on another channel or in another form.
What do you think? Would you like to see Persons Unknown continue in some way?
u could just watch the show on demand
I would love to see the Persons Unknown episode continue another season! It was very int. and exciting. I hope you continue this one for me, and all the others that enjoyed it!
Alan
I’d love to see it get another season. I doubt it will unless another network takes it over. Promoting it as a mini-series was fine until they jerked the schedule around so much that nobody knows what day it’s on much less what time. All the networks do this and it sucks big time for the viewer. Pick a day and a time Networks and leave it there. Stop jerking shows around and confusing everyone.
I am loving this show and I would hate for it to be cancelled. I wish they would stop changing the time though…how can they expect people to follow it when nobody knows when its on. I have watched the last two episodes online, which I guess isn’t too bad.
Sorry folks, but Happy Town was horribly acted, horribly written, over the top stupid. Flash Forward, the script was embarrassing, the acting– even worse. Persons Unknown is fantastic.
I hope it ends in one season. They had it on at 10pm Monday, then it went to 8PM monday. Then they threw it to Saturdays. Can’t make up their mind when to show it, how the heck can they make up their mind what to do in a SECOND season? I like these summer fillers, done in one season. I enjoyed Harpers Island, if I have the name correct. Bring on more shows like that one.
I’d love to see the show continuing.
Doing excellent so far
I took the chance and started watching Persons Unknown…knowing full well that if it weren’t an immediate hit that it would be cancelled. That’s why it was ‘the’ only new show I even bothered to watch. So many have fallen: LIFE, Pushing Daisies, Fast Forward and a show a few years back where the main character flashed back in time to rescue specific people. So, as they advertise their fall schedule I vow not to watch a single one and will, instead, read the new Martha Grimes. Daniel Silva, Elizabeth George, Michael Connelly books.
The series is exciting, and I have been watching all the episodes religiously. I like the fact that all questions would be answered by the end of season 1 because all too often the networks pull the plug too soon. Hey, maybe there should be a new series called “Networks Unknown”!
I just hope that NBC doesn’t pull the plug before we find out what’s really going on. It’s nearly halfway through and it’s been really sluggish. I hate watching shows that could potentially get cancelled before we find out what’s going on. It’s happened to me before but I thought with Christopher McQuarrie’s name, it would be a big hit. Surprised it wasn’t, but it’s actually been pretty disappointing anyway. I do want a little payoff for my time and would like to find out the “true story” and the mystery. Though, I am pretty much a skeptic about that.
i think it’s a fun show. Reminds me of the movie Identity starring John Cusack with the whole Agatha Christie, “…And Then There Were None,” influences on both.
This is about the 3rd show recently that we’ve had an interest in that has been canceled. First Flash Forward, then Happy Town, now Persons Unknown. What does it take to keep these shows going? PLEASE let the networks know there are real people out here that are sooooo over reality shows. No MORE!!!
But its so humdrum run of the mill NOT very imaginative. Just let it die.
I devoted weeks to “Happy Town” which I liked a lot because it was fresh and made you “wonder”. Then it was canceled after 5 episodes before it had a chance to gain buzz. Executives yanked it leaving you feeling you had wasted all that time without even a conclusion. The same happened to “Pushing Daisies” which was soooo different and refreshing. I am asking for viewing pleasure other than mindless reality shows and CSI everything. What is the problem with you viewers! Can’t you support a show that is intriguing, intelligent, different and original? This is what I think… Read more »
Jackie, you have the exact same tv tastes as mine. I too loved Pushing Daisies(Best. Show. Ever.), Happy Town(was screwed over royally by ABC) and now Persons Unknown, my current summer tv fling. I, like you Jackie, would like to see at least some intelligent programming on network tv but alas it looks like it’s not to be.
I don’t mind the dumb and ignorant watching tv but why must their tastes hold the rest of us hostage?
i totally agree. dont get us all excited over this big new exciting show and then rip it right from under our noses. i think maybe they should bring back happy town and pushing daisies along with eastwick cuz that one got good towards the end too and it wasnt following the movie either so how can us followers convince the producers or networks to give them another chance. ~happy town kind of reminded me of the mini series they did last summer “Harper’s Island” and that played all through the series. they should def. try that with a few… Read more »
Well i’m just hoping they air all the epidsodes they have now. Let;s not get greedy and think of what happens after the finale.
