Quantum Leap wrapped its second season on NBC last night, and now viewers are wondering about the show’s future. NBC has not yet renewed the sci-fi drama for a third season, but co-showrunners Martin Gero and Dean Georgaris do have the season mapped out. However, the season two finale could also work as a series finale.
Starring Raymond Lee, Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, Nanrisa Lee, Eliza Taylor, and Peter Gadiot, the Quantum Leap series follows Ben Song (Lee) as he takes over the Quantum Leap project and gets stuck traveling through time as Sam Beckett did in the original series.
[SPOILER] At the end of season two, viewers saw Ben joined by Addison, and a third season would feature the pair traveling together through time.
When asked if the second season finale could also work as a series finale, Georgaris noted:
“Interestingly, we actually didn’t craft it to be a series finale. The fact that Ben [Raymond Lee] and Addison [Caitlin Bassett] are in the same physical space can feel like a completion, of sorts, of the first part of their journey. But what we wanted to do for season two was to tell a really emotional story with this incredible cast that we had. And the way we did that was to split Ben and Addison up emotionally, to break them up. When we got the early renewal for season two, we knew we were not going to end it on a cliffhanger. We were going to end it on the first scene from season three, and we’re going to end it with the two characters together, but in a way that you never expected. And that sort of says to the audience, ‘look at all the great places we can go.’ So if it feels like a completion for audiences, that’s wonderful. It is a completion of part of the journey, but I think for us, it serves as the launch for the rest of the journey.”
Gero said the following about the NBC series, per Deadline:
“We haven’t done a longform pitch. They know definitely what the shape is, and they signed off on our little epilogue moment with Ben and Addison, so they know where we’re going. But no, we haven’t done our big song and dance thing …
We’ve been thinking about this since the strike was over and once we kind of finalized what the episode count was going to be, we started thinking and working on season three.”

I sure hope NBC renews this show! It’s one of my only favorites on this network. I’d love to see Addison and Ben leaping together. The last show of this season was fantastic! Please don’t cancel it!
Please add a season 3. Great series! Quantum leap has all needed. Romance, action, drama, scifi.
I love the series I hope they have a season 3
I loved the addition of Eliza Taylor to the storyline. Really spiced it up, so I’m definitely hoping for a season 3.
If this series is renewed, magnum pi which had much better audience results when it was canceled should return too.
I’m really hoping Quantum Leap gets renewed for a third season.
I love everything about Quantum Leap and I’d hate to see it not renew, especially since I’m interested to see what they do now that Addison and Ben are in the past together.
Please let the leaps continue. Renew for season 3. Thank you.
