TV show description:
This police drama is based on the Rizzoli/Isles series of novels by Tess Gerritsen. The series revolves around a police detective and a medical examiner who, although they’re complete opposites, combine their talents to solve crimes in Boston.
Detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) has the mindset that the criminals she’s chasing are monsters. As a younger girl, with a housewife mom and plumber dad, she saw a police officer on career day at school and decided that was the job for her. She wanted the gun, the badge, and mostly the respect. She worked her way up from a beat patrolman to detective in vice and narcotics, then finally to the homicide unit. Her philosophy in tracking down the criminals is to make it personal — get angry and never give up.
By contrast, it wasn’t until her adult years that Dr. Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) figured out she wanted to become a forensic pathologist. She always knew she was different than the other kids and would hide in her room reading and dissecting dead mice. Aside from being a scholar, she was also an accomplished pianist and honor student. All of this led her to student medicine but, after medical school, she realized she wasn’t good at the emotions needed for treating living patients and switched to forensics.
Maura knows she doesn’t have much in common with the police she works with and knows that they call her “Queen of the Dead” behind her back. This includes Jane’s former and present partners. Jane’s former partner, Detective Vince Korsak (Bruce McGill), is very much her mentor. Korsak has always treated her like a daughter, and doesn’t get along well with her new partner, Detective Barry Frost (Lee Thompson Young). He’s great when it comes to anything that deals with technology, but gets sick at the sight of blood. Still, he’s just as loyal to Jane as Korsak.
Also very loyal is Angela Rizzoli (Lorraine Bracco), Jane’s mom. She’s the epitome of an Italian mother — somewhat overbearing and very protective of her cubs. She claims to have not slept since Jane became a cop and wishes she’d be a little more feminine. She’s not the only one in the family to feel this way about her, as her little brother Frankie (Jordan Bridges) feels very protective of his big sis. He’s trying to make his way up the police force ladder so also feels like he’s a little in her shadow.

why is this show cancelled?
Utterly poor decision by network executives to cancel this show! I vote no confidence in executives. This was one TV show that celebrates the strength of women and what we can do. It’s been such a powerful tool to inspire women like me to do perform jobs historically thought to be too difficult or tough for women. As a mechanical engineer I can relate. We need more shows like this and it feels so repressive to have this one cancelled.
I really enjoyed the show. I wil miss not seeing it.
So disappointed. I love this show and wished it was on a real tv season. I don’t understand why this show is being cancelled. We, the viewers, want it to return!
This was a great show! It should not have been cancelled!!!!
I LOVE RIZZOLI AND ISLES, WHY ARE YOU TAKING IT OFF AIR. PLEASE CHANGE YOUR MIND AND PUT IT BACK ON. There are so many stupid shows on TV and Rizzoli & Isles is a great show and it get cancelled, MAKE NO SENSE!!!
This is the best show on tv. Bring it back please.
Please don’t take off this show. I’ve been watching it for ever. The chemistry between Rizzoli and Isles is fantastic. I love there friendship. There is so much more this show offers. Please don’t let it go off the air
I love Rizzoli & Isles and am very sad it’s ending. Why does tv cancel the classy and interesting series and keep the same type of supernatural or those shows with unclear storylines? The actors were terrific and you could feel the “family” type atmosphere on the show and with the cast. It’s sooo sad.
One of the all time best shows on TV! Can’t believe they cancelled it!
Please reconsider this cancelation. The relationship between the Razzoli & Isles is one of the rare and pure entertainment. I would be the first to applaud a return to this network or another. The tragic death of the young actor and the impact of that loss to the actors was evident. Love this show. Bring them back.
The show should be continued or picked up by another network. It’s the one show on TV that you can understand . All of the new shows are all towards a younger viewing group full of violence, witch craft or simple put , showing the younger generation that its okay to shoot people, do drugs or anything you want because we can be punish for it. You network CEO’s need to understand that people enjoy watching shows that have some depth to them, and also should the love of family and friends.
It is my favorite show. I wish that it would continue. Seems black violence and gay tones have become the norm.
It’s should stay on the air for another season or two. it is fun and comical and I did joy it. So keep it on
I think the resulting all should stay on it’s a good decent show and it’s fun to watch
