AMC has decided to cancel Rubicon after one season of 13 episodes.
Billed as a conspiracy thriller, Rubicon is set in a government intelligence agency where nothing is as it seems. The cast includes James Badge Dale, Dallas Roberts, Jessica Collins, Christopher Evan Welch, Lauren Hodges, Arliss Howard, and Miranda Richardson.
The TV show was previewed back in June and attracted a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.07 million viewers. When the series officially kicked off in August, the demo dropped to a 0.3 rating with 1.9 million viewers. The demo dropped to a 0.2 after that and the whole season averaged a 0.3 rating and 1.25 million viewers.
That wasn’t enough for AMC to want a second season and the cable channel has now cancelled the series.
Of the cancellation decision, AMC released the following statement, “Rubicon’ gave us an opportunity to tell a rich and compelling story, and we’re proud of the series. This was not an easy decision, but we are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a phenomenally talented and dedicated team.”
The 13th and final episode of Rubicon aired on October 17th.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that it’s been cancelled? What would you liked to have seen in season two?

Deeply disappointed and depressed at learning this news. I really liked this show. I agree with the others, we need to fight the dumbing down of America.
I guess it’s back to Masterpiece Theatre and watching Mad Men off the DVR.
America just got a little dumber. This choice by AMC speaks to the vast majority of American society that needs thoughtless action or unrealistic drama. So sad that intelligent media has no place these days. BRING RUBICON BACK!!
I hope SOMEBODY picks it up! The show developed at an (almost) excruciatingly exquisite rate which unfolded with more and more suspense with each new episode. NOT TO MENTION how damned sexy it was: what with the adorable Jessica Collins (as Maggie), the alluring Annie Parisse (as Andy), the quirkily fey Lauren Hodges (as Tanya), and the delightful Natalie Gold (as Julia)? I rest my case!
I guess American TV viewers can’t display their disdain for intelligence fast enough: Rubicon gets canceled, yet Dancing with a Bunch of Abject Morons and The Biggest FatAss gets renewed continuously. Ugh!
Great show, come on guys we only got to the inciting incident. We need more and the show needs more exposure.
Shows that require thinking don’t fit “the dumbing down of America” philosophy. Instead we have to watch overweight people learn that eating less and exercise will keep your weight in check followed up by a bunch of morons at the Jersey Shore.
I loved the show. It had great suspense and drama. However it makes great sense why it was canceled. My real question is why was it not a hit. The first few episodes of the first season of psych I was beyond board. It brought me no interest what so ever. A few seasons later I am a huge fan and can not get enough of it. I was instantly grabbed in the first episode of Rubicon and I still am. It has such a rich story line and it makes me want to come back for more. I am… Read more »
Bring it back! So disappointed!
Rubicon was an amazing show and AMC hardly gave it a chance. As I recall Mad Men didn’t and still doesn’t exactly have a huge audience either but AMC kept it and it has won Emmy’s and received critical acclaim. Shame on AMC. TNT should pick it up and run with it.
The problem is…it’s a smart show. There aren’t very many smart TV watchers in the US. Bring it back!
I should have seen this coming because I liked it. What is particularly aggravating is that the pace of this show went up a notch with every episode. Was it a compelling series? I’m sure it wasn’t for some people but for me neither was Mad Men. It took the latter half of the second season to hook me. And since when are 1.25 million people not a large enough audience to want on board?
I hope they change their mind or I just might take it personally along with over a million other viewers.
Ugh, but this show was perfection!
This show went nowhere slowly…
At first I was truly excited about this show. Then I watched the first 4 episodes and lost all interest in it. It could have been so much better, but it never really had me wanting to come back for more.
This show lacked purpose, or intrigue. It became back-ground noise to a dull Sunday night prior to what was on Mad Men.
Very disappointed to hear this. I was very much looking forward to the following seasons. I guess it’s just one of those shows where it’s hard to jump into the middle of a story. Makes it more difficult to obtain new viewers. AMC, please consider changing your mind though.
Well, this means it is back to using sleeping aids to fall asleep again.
Thought the show was great! Shouldn’t have been canceled. It has a cult following like Mad Men did when it first started. Bring Rubicon back!
