Of all the new shows this season, it seems like NBC has the highest hopes for The Event. How did the new show do in the ratings? Will it be the next Lost or the next FlashForward?
The Event follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter), a young man who’s investigating the mysterious disappearance of his girlfriend. He slowly begins to uncover the biggest cover-up in the history of the United States. Others in the cast include Sarah Roemer, Laura Innes, Ian Anthony Dale, Scott Patterson, Clifton Collins Jr., Taylor Cole, Lisa Vidal, Bill Smitrovich, Zeljko Ivanek, and Blair Underwood.
The first episode attracted an average 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.9 million total viewers. It was in third place in both areas, though it did tie CBS’ Mike & Molly for second place in the demo in the second half hour.

This was a big improvement over last season’s Heroes premiere and built on the Chuck lead-in by 80%. That’s impressive. What’s more, viewership grew as the hour progressed, meaning that people stuck with it and new people even joined in midway.
While this performance is positive, it’s not as big a start as the network wanted. The real test will be to see how well The Event holds up over the next few weeks. AS you may remember, ABC’s FlashForward started with very healthy numbers but viewership dwindled each week and it was ultimately cancelled after one season.
But, what do you think? Do you like The Event? Is it confusing or intriguing? Will you keep watching or should it be cancelled?

This plot seems to be heading towards a twist, the people being held are prob NOT aliens, but time travelers from our own future, sent back to correct/prevent a catastrophe. Their DNA is diff by 2% because of how far in our own future they came back from! That explains Alot, also why the show is always jumping back and forth in time, DUH!
Hi All,
You got me interested with all the ads for it, but you got me hooked with the first show.
I sure hope you keep it. I for one can’t wait until tonight and all the Mondays that follow.
Thanks, Elaine
I watched the Pilot out of curiosity. I started out watching Lost, but they “lost” me in season 3 or so….too many questions, not enough answers, unfinished story lines, etc., etc. This looks like it’s going in the same direction and I have no use for shows that start story lines and never finish them or leave you with more questions than answers. Nothing in this entire show made any sense except seems like they were trying to copy the Obama/Gitmo closure with Blair Underwood at the Alaska prison. And I can’t figure out what THAT has to do with… Read more »
This was all over the map. There was little to interest me and I had already figured out who the “bad guys” were (kidnapping couple on cruise) from first moment. Disjointed stuff like this does not make compelling TV. It’s a poor excuse for drama and hopes to take advantage of the “short-attention-span” generation of folks who don’t need depth or continuity. It presents as a “lets throw everything out there and see what sticks” kinda show, which means that the people in charge probably don’t know what they want either. I don’t see this improving with such a mindless… Read more »
It’s a keeper. I am hooked already….
Well I seem to remember a couple of shows thaat were on last season called Flash foward and V. Those both had the same premise of The Event and both dissappointing, one even canceled. V really should have been canceled too though. Anyway, the pilot was ok, kinda posing questions of what questions are gonna come up. Honestly I wasn’t sure if I would be impressed when I watched the pilot or dissappointed. Right now I’m neither. So I’ll watch next week, but NBC please be something good. Oh yeah that was just funny what you did on Minute to… Read more »
I liked The Event, BUT, it also really makes me mad when shows (cough cough FlashForward) TRY to be Lost. You can’t be another Lost, so stop trying. The Event, to me, seems to try to be complicated on purpose, and the flashes back and forth are an obvious attempt at mimicking Lost. We need to want to care about the mysteries/plot, don’t make them so hard on purpose. Lost was unique, nothing had ever aired like it, and I doubt nothing will- if it does, it will flop (like FlashForward and quite possibly this show.) The next Lost will… Read more »
Flashing back and forth too many times is confusing and not helping the understand of the plot. I must admit I switched channels after 15 minutes. If FlashForward didn’t make it, I think this show is gonna be canned.
well since we don’t have lost anymore we need something good to watch and this could be it i think we should all give it a chance at lest for the next ummm lets say 2 weeks lol.
I watched “The Event” out of sheer curiosity and because I like Laura Innes and Jason Ritter, but the time shifts were really annoying! It felt like it was trying too hard to be like “Lost”! I will watch at least one more episode to see if it can capture my attention, but I think it may have missed the mark!
I was disappointed. The flash back were disjointed and confusing. Also I still hate Laura Innes.
I must have missed hearing Flash Forward was cancelled.
I liked The Event, it kept me engaged. Especially when I realized Luke from Gilmore Girls was the Pilot. I’ll tune in again next week.
totally confused most of the time. just when you think you have it figured out it time warps on you. any show that you have to take notes to watch cant be too entertaining.
I have to agree with most people that the jumping back and forth does make for some confusion. However, towards the end when the airplane disappeared has intrigued me as well a many. If the timeline can stay linear and not go back and forth too much, I say it will be a hit. Ritter and Underwood were ok. Already there are some easter eggs and conspiracies theories floating about. Soon you will see self made websites trying to unravel the mystery.
I’m not the demographic they are aiming for (too old), but I started out liking the show. When the plot shifted back and forth (3 days prior, 7 hours prior, etc.), I was puzzled as to why they thought this was necessary. The actors have promise, and I will watch the next episode to see where the plane went.
