TV show description:
From creator Tim Doyle, The Kids Are Alright TV show is an ensemble sitcom, set in the 1970s. The series follows the Cleary family, a traditional Irish-Catholic clan, as they live out their lives amidst the upheaval of the 1970s.
The story unfolds in a great Los Angeles working-class neighborhood. The family is headed up by married couple Peggy (McCormack) and Mike Cleary (Cudlitz), who are raising eight rowdy and energetic sons. Because this is the 70s, the boys live most of their lives outside, and they do so with a lack of supervision that might cause modern helicopter parents to faint.
Their lives are chugging along more as less as expected, until the Clearys’ eldest son, Lawrence (Straley) comes home to announce he’s quitting the seminary. Instead of pursuing the priesthood, he wants to embark on a mission to “save the world.” Mike and Peggy never expected to be raising their brood in such turbulence, but as the song goes, the times they are a-changing.
Series Finale:
Episode #23 — Irish Goodbye
Peggy struggles with Lawrence’s decision to move out of the house, especially after she discovers that he is secretly moving in with a girlfriend she’s never met. Lawrence’s determination to keep Peggy out of his personal life only causes her to investigate further, while Mike welcomes his departure. Meanwhile, Timmy can’t find his ventriloquist dummy, Knuckles, and learns that Joey took him without asking.
First aired: May 21, 2019.
What do you think? Do you like The Kids Are Alright TV series? Should this ABC TV show have been cancelled or renewed for season two?
Very good show and it never should be cancelled.
This show had the makings of Seinfeld. Witty dry quick humor involving simple things in life. I question the basis for cancelling the best show in years. I think we all know why.
This is a great tv show!
Why on earth was this canceled?
By far, one of the best new shows on TV, period! The dialog was superb, the hilarious and multiple storyline threads paired well and ended with a big laugh, and the cast was one in a million. The actors in this show will be missed! Maybe us fans will get lucky and Netflix or Hulu, or dare I say it, NBC might pick the show up in the future??? Please, please, please???
I am disappointed that the the show is cancelled. The script was spot on very funny and true to life.
Especially the draft lottery was true. I remember
It all from the 70’s and Peg is a kick
My husband and I are upset the show was cancelled. The show is funny and true to how it was in the 70’s. I have a friend who is from a large Catholic family and she has told me many stories about her life and this show is very authentic. It also helps to have a very good ensemble cast. Bring the show back!!
My husband and I are very upset that the show was canceled. We love the show and all the actors.
So disappointed to see this show cancelled after only one season. A superb cast, excellent writing that truly captures growing up in the 70s (I was 15 In 1970)
Give this show one more season to develop a following!
This was an excellent show and it is a shame that it got cancelled.
I am so sorry to hear The Kids are Alright has been cancelled. It is a favorite of ours. It’s become sort of a cult favorite. Families can relate to most of the situations and though they might handle it differently now, many can still remember events back in their days growing up. There are so few programs that families can watch together it seems a shame to cancel one of the good ones.
Cant believe this show got cancelled…one of our favorites…such fresh ideas and not cookie-cutter…please rethink cancelling this show! Would much rather watch this than bachelor/bachelorette reality shows…
Cancelling this show is another example of networks not giving a show with great characters, acting and funny story lines enough time to find a niche. This is the dumbest move that ABC has made. Yet all those ridiculous realty shows survive. What is wrong with this world. This was the best new show to hit TV in a long time and I hope that some other network executive will pick this up if ABC lets it go.. To let this great cast fall to this fate is a shame, yet the bachelor and bachelorette remain as a example of… Read more »
You were absolutely insane to cancel this brilliant show. It should run 10x longer than anything else out there. Bring it back!
