Uhtred of Bebbanburg and his adventures are coming to an end with year five. The Netflix historical drama series, The Last Kingdom, is coming to a close so, there won’t be a sixth season. The streaming service hasn’t announced a release date for the final installments as yet.
The Last Kingdom stars Alexander Dreymon, Emily Cox, Ian Hart, Joseph Millson, Mark Rowley, Toby Regbo, Millie Brady, James Northcote, Adrian Bouchet, Ewan Mitchell, Timothy Innes, Magnus Bruun, Jamie Blackley, Richard Dillane, Finn Elliott, Ruby Hartley, Nigel Lindsay, Dorian Lough, Stefanie Martini, Steffan Rhodri, and Eysteinn Sigurðarson. An adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s novel series, The Saxon Stories, the historical drama follows Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Dreymon), the son of a 9th Century Saxon nobleman. After killing his father, Danish invaders kidnap the boy and he is raised by their warlord, Ragnar. Years later, when Ragnar is killed, Uhtred vows to avenge him and reclaim his birthright. In season four, as Edward and Aethelflaed spar over the future of Mercia and their father’s dream of a united England, Uhtred tries to recover his lost birthright.
The series debuted on BBC Two in the UK in 2015 and the first season aired on BBC America in the United States. Netflix became its official home in 2018.
According to Deadline, Carnival Films, which produces Last Kingdom, confirmed that the series is coming to a close with season five. The cast and crew are currently filming the final 10 episodes in Hungary and they will be based on the ninth and 10th books in Cornwell’s 13-part series.
Dreymon will make his directorial debut by helming an episode in the final season. Andy Hay, Paul Wilmshurst, Anthony Philipson, and Jon East will also direct installments. Cast additions for season five include Patrick Robinson, Sonya Cassidy, and Harry Gilby.

I am sooo disappointed. This is an excellent series! Quailty in all ways. There are story lines that aren’t finshed! Netflix, please reconsider this renewal option.

Terribly disappointed season 5 will be the last. Such an exciting series. Netflix needs to revise how they choose what shows they renew.
I am very disappointed that there won’t be a season 6. I love the Last Kingdom! It seems that good series don’t last anymore.

It’s very sad that Netflix cancels all good shows after short seasons WHY people enjoy them so much and we pay money to see them, The Last Kingdom was Brilliant, other shows they have taken off too and replaced them with old ones it’s really sad I am so shocked they are not continuing with it 6 or more, it would be nice if they had a survey for the customers about cancellations, thank you Denise !
A lot of us showed our disapproval of the ending of Game of Thrones by canceling our HBO subscription and I bet it got their attention! I don’t watch Netflix as much as I did HBO so if they are listening to their customers maybe they will miss our money..Bring back The Last Kingdom please!
Absolutely the best series ever. Please, please,please don’t stop at season 5. Every one I know loves The Last Kingdom. There are still more books to use. The acting and story line are incredible. The honor and values portrayed are so rare in these times you can’t stop now.
Alexander Dreymon is the best on TV and cinema right now. Please put him in another series. Thank you for these five seasons. My heart will go on. Destiny prevails.
I cannot believe this! This show is so well acted and written! What is wrong with Netflix. There is more material, let them finish the books. These actors are outstanding, please please do Not cancel. My whole extended family and friends watch this show. Destiny is All!!

So disappointing! This show help me recover from the pitiful ending of Game of Thrones..I canceled my HBO subscription after that show..Now they are ending The Last Kingdom which is outstanding! So sad!
