CBS has announced that this is the final season of The Mentalist. The ratings have been coming down for awhile but will they rally for the last 13 episodes? Will the network regret ending the series? Could there be an eighth season after all if the numbers are strong enough?
On The Mentalist, Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) continues to help solve tough cases, using his razor sharp skills of observation. How will the relationship of Jane and Agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) affect their work? This time around the supporting castmembers are Tim Kang, Rockmond Dunbar, Joe Adler, and Josie Loren.
The higher a show’s ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better its chances for survival. New ratings data will be added as it becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
Final season averages: 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.28 million total viewers.

Last year comparison: The sixth season of The Mentalist averaged a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.14 million total viewers.
Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you still like The Mentalist TV series? Do you think it should be ending or should it return for an eighth season?
The FBI transition was silly and is the reason for diminished viewership. Also, dropping two excellent actors made no sense. This show’s decision makers claim they are interested in the show’s viewership, which means making money, but their decisions have demonstrated otherwise.
Great show but time to go.
Why are network stations ending scripted shows like The Mentalist? Why are they catering to the 18-49 year old bracket, when most of the people watching television and buying the products the advertisers sell are between 50-70? CBS you are making a horrible mistake cancelling The Mentalist! I don’t know what you’d put in it’s place if you decide to cancel it, but if it’s some “reality” show, I will be using my remote!!!
Alas, I must state the opposite of others and say I never found this to be an entertaining or watchable show. Something about the main character always turned me off and so not watch.
I agree with everyone. I love The Mentalist. And it IS a great cast. Some of them, like Cho, could move on to their own show after this ends. We can only hope that they wrap up the story in the final episode. Then, let’s see Simon Baker on another show… and another network. One that doesn’t live for junk like the Mc Somethings.. sorry, can’t remember the name of this lame show. Sheldon’t mom and Roseanne’s sister deserves so much better!
The Mentalist is and has been an excellent show, why would anyone want to stop it.
It shouldn’t be the final season:( The Mentalist is the best show that i keep watching until now, i think this is just the start for a new Jane. However, if it must be ended, i’m glad to be the part of it with the great storyline inside
The Mentalist is one of the best remaining shows on, when it’s gone there will be another gap on TV without anything good to replace it. Wonderful Cast. !!
I watched the Mentalist periodically to see how the hunt for Red John ended, which was anticlimatic. Only watched a couple of season six episodes, and had no interest, which is why I was surpised I was glad to see the show yesterday. It was nice to see Lisbo, Cho, and even Jane again.
Loved Jane’s character until this Lisbon bs started and totally ruined his character… the chemistry between them is not exactly romantic, is more like brother and sister… we saw more chemistry between James and Lorelei Martins, or even Chrystal Markham… but this is not due to good or bad acting, its bad script forcing something thats not there! Lisbon’s character is not a match for James’s character, its simple as that!
The Mentalist deserves to have a “final season”. Can’t wait to see how it all ends come February. WARNING: Try not to delete my comment and I really don’t want to see the one that says “your comment is awaiting moderation”.
The ratings should go up when the show is moved to Wednesday nights. I hope so anyway.
And it does raised up!
The Mentalist is one of my favorite TV shows. Not happy to hear this is the last season. l think there are so many more stories to be told with this series. Jane is capable of so much. Sadly, I will have to savor every episode until the series finale.
Wasn’t a good sixth season last year but CBS made a brave decision to have The Mentalist for a much deserve “final season”. Jane and Lisbon may give Castle & Beckett nor Booth & Bones a run for their money.
I think CBS is making a mistake ending The Mentalist, its a great fun show with a excellent cast. As usual CBS ends the best shows like Intelligence should have not ended but it did and in comes more stupid reality shows. Wake up CBS stop canceling the good shows take a hint from A&E for canceling Longmire!
