Not counting the Prison Break revival, FOX introduced 10 new TV shows during the regular 2016-17 television season and cancelled seven of them. Now they’ve picked up Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s new space adventure comedy drama. Can his animated series success translate to live-action sci-fi? Will The Orville TV show be cancelled or renewed for a second season on FOX? Stay tuned.
The Orville stars MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, Halston Sage, J Lee, Mark Jackson, Chad L. Coleman, Norm Macdonald, Larry Joe Campbell, Victor Garber, Brian George, and Rachael MacFarlane. In 2417, Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) is promoted to captain The U.S.S. Orville, with the assistance of First Officer Kelly Grayson (Palicki). Unfortunately, she’s his ex-wife, and her presence acts as a bridle on his enthusiasm. Whether facing off with the Krill, a dangerous alien race, or attempting rescues on behalf of the Planetary Union, the human and alien crew still must deal with their mundane issues and each other.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
12/8 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Orville TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season on FOX?
11/2 update: The Orville is renewed for season two on FOX. Details here.
Love love this show. I hope the networks give it a chance.
We both like this show and won’t miss an episode.
It is similar enough to TNG to be enjoyable and fill the gap, but it is different enough to stand on its own.
Zero. Point. Nine. How embarrassing for you.
We love this show. Light fresh entertaining. Give it a chance
I don’t watch and it doesn’t appear I’m missing anything. Canx.
you know , you wouldn’t miss anything even if you don’t watch shows like GoT or westworld either.
Oof…The Orville has lost 67% of it audience. This show has GoT to go!
And yet here you are commenting on a show youre not interested in. My what an exciting full life you must have.
Please give The Orville a chance. It’s fresh, fun and very creative.
Please give The Orville a chance. It’s fresh, fun, and very creatively written.
I think it is a refreshing look at sci-fi. Funny but still interesting characters and story lines, so far.
I think it’s great. Give it a chance!
This is a much better return to Star Trek than the curiously bad return offered by CBS with STD. Please give the Orville a chance to grow as I feel it is being much better received than Discovery. Episodes three and four proved to me that this series is already beginning to get better.
You do realize that The Orville is not part of the Star Trek story line, right? It’s its own show – not part of the Star Trek (not the Star Wars) franchise.
Great show leave it on
I told people I will watch the first season only because everyone said it sucks when the two minute preview was only showing. I must say this show is great love it and by the way it not part of star trek or star wars it it’s own show
I had my doubts during the pilot because the jokes were visibly ‘forced’ and dragged out a bit long. But with episodes 3 and 4 I think they have found their rhythm – far faster than most shows do. 1×03 and 1×04 have stories and situation worth watching while at the same time humor to keep them from being the dark depressing dystopian view of the future that is just not ‘entertainment’ episode after episode. If FOX can keep their hands out of this and just let the creators be creative this could be great and be a consistent performer… Read more »
When I first saw this show I was hoping a good Sci-Fi show like the old Star Trek brought up to date with todays special effects had showed up but boy was I wrong and very disappointed. Whoever the writer or writers are they obviously have a sex fixation. Don’t you people realize that many of your viewers are probably children. I wouldn’t want my child watching this trash for 10 seconds. I strongly urge you to cancel season 2 if you can’t change it up and clean it up.
You can do better Fox.
I love it! My new obsession! Give me more!
