Not counting the Prison Break revival, FOX introduced 10 new TV shows during the regular 2016-17 television season and cancelled seven of them. Now they’ve picked up Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s new space adventure comedy drama. Can his animated series success translate to live-action sci-fi? Will The Orville TV show be cancelled or renewed for a second season on FOX? Stay tuned.
The Orville stars MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, Halston Sage, J Lee, Mark Jackson, Chad L. Coleman, Norm Macdonald, Larry Joe Campbell, Victor Garber, Brian George, and Rachael MacFarlane. In 2417, Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) is promoted to captain The U.S.S. Orville, with the assistance of First Officer Kelly Grayson (Palicki). Unfortunately, she’s his ex-wife, and her presence acts as a bridle on his enthusiasm. Whether facing off with the Krill, a dangerous alien race, or attempting rescues on behalf of the Planetary Union, the human and alien crew still must deal with their mundane issues and each other.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
12/8 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Orville TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season on FOX?
11/2 update: The Orville is renewed for season two on FOX. Details here.
I think it is very enjoyable
Terrible show.
Orville is more like Star Trek then the new SJW Star Trek Discovery, love Orville.
It’s none of them. Please stop comparing them. The is on its on path.
It’s official folks! FOX has just renewed The Orville for a 2nd season!
At least we can all rejoice in knowing that the REAL Star Trek show will continue on. Personally, I’ve lost interest in Discovery, considering what CBS and Moonves have done to wreck the franchise.
The writing is getting poorer. And Shows with black attitude turn Me off. That two in a row.
My husband and I hate this new show. So uninteresting and unfunny too. It is so much worst than the new Star Trek. The actors all ruin the show, not just on one character all the time.

The Orville and star trek shows. Its like pizza. Haven’t ever seen one i did not like.
Great fun show! Way better Trek satisfaction than the new Star Trek Discovery. Hoping for a second season!
Cameo of that bear Ted, sure would boast things.
Lackluster entertainment. attempt to parallel social issues leaves the story weak. Obvious bias content makes it exclusively a liberal show. I was very excited about this show when it came out and can barely watch it because it’s so bad.
I have to ask what you mean – The Orville is as far away from bias as it can be. Yes, it sometimes has liberal viewpoints but it also has some very conservative viewpoints and it balances social issues in its story – it’s exactly not just a propaganda machine. You can agree and disagree with the show because it’s not pushed down your throat as it is in Star Trek or Super Girl, either Side gets real and good arguments and more than once the show doesn’t do exactly what would be the best “liberal” way. To be honest… Read more »
I guess you really hated the original Star Trek and Star Trek: Next Generation then.
I read this and felt…wow, this has to be a joke.
FYI, Cruz/Paul conservative here and I see ZERO bias in this show, it shows both sides humorously, yet respectively.
I love it. Its everything the new Star Trek should have been and more. It funny but not in a silly way and the stories are interesting fast and keep you interested. Sadly Discovery had me nodding off, its like Star Trek for politically corrcct morons. . The Orville is for everyone, no matter what sexuality or race you are its got you covered. The characters are a likeable which help.
This show is so horrendous, it’s lost 60% of its viewers. Please cancel. Thank-you.
Renewed for season 2. Better luck next year mate.
THIS SHOW MAKE ME FELL LIKE A TREKKIE AGAIN
