Here’s the press release with some the details:
HULU ENTERS THE GALAXY AS SETH MACFARLANE’S EMMY-NOMINATED, HIT SCI-FI SERIES THE ORVILLE TAKES OFF AS NEW HULU ORIGINAL
Season Three of The Orville To Stream Exclusively On Hulu in 2020
(San Diego, CA) July 20, 2019 – Emmy Award-winning actor, animator, filmmaker, musical artist and comedian Seth MacFarlane announced today at San Diego Comic-Con that the Emmy-nominated fan-favorite, sci-fi series The Orville will move to Hulu exclusively for its upcoming third season. The Seth MacFarlane-created series will hit the streaming service as a Hulu Original in late 2020.
“The Orville has been a labor of love for me, and there are two companies which have supported that vision in a big way: 20th Century Fox Television, where I’ve had a deal since the start of my career, and FOX Broadcasting Company, now FOX Entertainment, which has been my broadcast home for over 20 years. My friends at the network understood what I was trying to do with this series, and they’ve done a spectacular job of marketing, launching and programming it for these past two seasons. But as the show has evolved and become more ambitious production-wise, I determined that I would not be able to deliver episodes until 2020, which would be challenging for the network. So we began to discuss how best to support the third season in a way that worked for the show. It’s exactly this kind of willingness to accommodate a show’s creative needs that’s made me want to stick around for so long. I am hugely indebted to Charlie Collier and FOX Entertainment for their generosity and look forward to developing future projects there. And to my new friends at Hulu, I look forward to our new partnership exploring the galaxy together,” said Seth MacFarlane.
“Fox Entertainment has been a fantastic home for The Orville and their willingness to support the show’s move to Hulu is incredibly appreciated; they really are great partners to us on so many shows and this is one more example. We’re thrilled as a studio to find this creative solution which is so meaningful to Seth and keeps the show on track to continue entertaining its millions of fans,” said Carolyn Cassidy, President of Creative Affairs, 20th Century Fox Television.
“We know our viewers are huge fans of The Orville, along with many of Seth MacFarlane’s groundbreaking hit shows, and we can’t wait to bring Season 3 to them exclusively on the platform,” said Craig Erwich, SVP Content Development, Hulu. “Hulu is a home for the world’s most sought-after creative talent, and we’re incredibly excited to welcome Seth and the entire cast and creative team of The Orville to our Hulu Originals slate.”
The third season of The Orville will join Hulu’s lineup of premium Original genre programming including the Emmy-nominated Castle Rock from J.J. Abrams and Stephen King, which won the 2019 Writers’ Guild Award, Marvel’s Runaways, Future Man from Seth Rogen, the Into the Dark franchise from Blumhouse Television and the upcoming hyper-noir drama series Reprisal starring Abigail Spencer. Seth MacFarlane’s projects including American Dad, Family Guy and The Orville are among Hulu users’ most beloved content.
The Orville is a live-action, one-hour space adventure series set 400 years in the future that follows The U.S.S. Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship. Its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the problems of everyday life.
The Orville is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Fuzzy Door Productions. The series was created and written by Seth MacFarlane. MacFarlane, Brannon Braga, David A. Goodman, Jason Clark and Jon Cassar serve as executive producer on the series. Jon Favreau directed the series premiere episode.

What do you think? Do you like The Orville TV show? Will you watch season three now that it’s moving from FOX to Hulu?
Very disappointed. The Orville will be missed by me. The fees for streaming tv are too much.
Very SAD to hear this. HULU is 12 bucks (ad free). Why not Disney’s new streaming? At least its a bit more affordable. Obviously done to pump up Hulu. It is a trend. Soon ‘free’ TV will be history. Anna is right. It is all abouit $$$$ FOR THEM. Bye Bye Orivlle
I love Orville BUT now I will have to pay for another service I cant afford.
It is unfair to thosse of us who live on limited income below 15k a year
ALL THE SERVICES ARE ABOUT $$$$ NOTHING ABOUT LOYALTY TO CUSTOMERS
You people complain and complain! Hulu is only $5 a month! You have a internet connection, just install the app! I just don’t get people, if you like thus product, follow it! This makes sense, Orville owned by 20th which is owned by Disney. Hulu is owned by Disney.
Maybe you are made of money. Most of us are not. And Hulu is not $5 for the streaming service if you want to DVR it. Thats $45-$55 per month! If you don’t care about DVRing it, you will need to have at least the $12 per month plan to stream away from your home on your phone or you’ll be paying for ads time to run too. Thats the problem with online TV. Its $5 for this one and $10 for that one and $15 for that one and $50 to get networks to provide services they used to… Read more »
My thoughts is FOX (TV Network) is paying for a show that won’t be airing next season. The money is earmarked for the upcoming TV season, not another season completely. On top of that, while the network may love the show, “The Orville” is really not a major hit for the new upstart network. It has done OK, but in no way a blockbuster on the lineup. Another reason: the license fee for the series got higher because Disney now owns the show. While I hate that the program is moving to Hulu (not a subscriber at the moment), the… Read more »
Might as well have cancelled it. Every original Hulu show tanks pretty quickly. And I know most (myself included) won’t pay extra to watch a show that has been free for 2 seasons.
The most stupid decision in the history of TV! To place a show on a streaming channel means, the customer has to pay for every episode instead of watchoing them on a free channel! Star Trek, and nearly all the fans of The Orville think, that this is the best ST ever without a brand on it, is a must for everybody! And not all people and fans can afford the money! And how many channels I have to pay for, since I love more than just one series? Going to pay-channels is the DEATH of a series! And allways… Read more »
>To place a show on a streaming channel means, the customer has to pay for every episode instead of watchoing them on a free channel! no, it doesn’t. It means it is free to watch for Hulu subscribers, and hulu even has an ad-based free program, which has a limited time range. IIRC every episode will be available for a week after it first aired, but US only (except if you use a VPN) >Star Trek, and nearly all the fans of The Orville think, that this is the best ST ever without a brand on it, is a must… Read more »
NO, you do NOT pay for episodes at a time!!! Research before you speak!!!
Great show. Glad I have hulu.
I think this is bullcr@p. As I see it this is a slap in the face to the fans who support this show. I pay enough for tv and I refuse to be coerced into paying more. I believe that this will lead to the downfall of the show. Bad move Seth.
Well so much for watching The Orville. I really liked this show, too. I cant afford to pay for HULU. Why do all the shows I like seem to either go to the pay channels or get cancelled. Go where no man has gone before………
Why do you think everyone streams????? We don’t, so thanks to that we miss a good show. THANKS A LOT!!!!!!!! Why do you have to mess up everything?
Love the show but not watching on Hulu!!
Well, so much for our beloved ‘The Orville”. We already are paying our budgeted limit for TV, Wi-Fi, and digital phone service. I’m not piling on Hulu! We’ll miss all of you on board ‘The Orville’.
I now have no reason to watch FOX programs. FOX you missed ship (stars) on this one.
You lost me. I am on a fix income and no streaming service. I will buy on DVD!
Good luck, DVD’s are obsolete.
Sorry to tell you this Max but, you are WRONG. I purchase DVDs all of the time. DVDs are alive and well and they are much better than having to stream something online.
What is Fox (Disney) doing getting rid of all its comedies? Suppose we shouldn’t be surprised given that the Disney owned ABC has been cancelling shows before they had a chance for years now.
