What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the BBC America cable channel, The Watch is inspired by the Discworld novels by Sir Terry Pratchett. The cast includes Richard Dormer, Lara Rossi, Adam Hugill, Marama Corlett, Jo Eaton-Kent, Wendell Pierce, Samuel Adewunmi, Matt Berry, Anna Chancellor, and Bianca Simone Mannie, with James Fleet, Ralph Ineson, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Paul Kaye, Ruth Madeley, and Ingrid Oliver. Set in the fictional Discworld’s principal city of Ankh-Morpork, the story follows an unlikely group of misfits called The City Watch. They are forced to find the courage to save the world and surprise even themselves in the process. The series pits trolls, werewolves, wizards, and other improbable heroes against an evil plot to resurrect a great dragon which would lead to the destruction of life as they know it. Characters include leader Sam Vimes (Dormer); the last scion of nobility, Lady Sybil Ramkin (Rossi); naïve but heroic Constable Carrot (Hugill); mysterious Corporal Angua (Corlett); ingenious forensics expert Constable Cheery (Eaton-Kent); and the voice of Death (Pierce).

Telly’s Take
Will BBC America cancel or renew The Watch for season two? It’s difficult to know what BBCA and AMC Networks consider to be a success when it comes to viewership. However, given that this show is based on a series of books and they’re trying to build the newly launched AMC+ streaming service, I think that it will likely be renewed. I’ll update this page with breaking developments. Subscribe for free alerts on The Watch cancellation or renewal news.

What do you think? Do you hope The Watch TV show will be renewed for a second season? How would you feel if BBC America cancelled this TV series, instead?
This dreck deserves to be cancelled. Even if it did not try to trade on stolen character names it would still be confused garbage. For it to claim any connection with good writing and direction is a stretch ; for it to claim any connection whatsoever with Pratchett is just downright insulting.
It is one oof a few shows I will go out of my way to watch.
I love this show.
Yes loved characters and actors who portrayed
Loved it!!
The show was made using a loophole in a contract with Terry Pratchett. It was made by removing the authors of the show including Pratchett’s daughter whom he left the exclusive rights to his works. BBC Studios then handed them to Simon Allen who didn’t acknowledge Pratchett and took credit for the show (illegal in the UK and breaks copy right laws). It seems likely to me that the show will have a lot of behind the scene drama and personally I hope that Narrativia get creative rights back as intended by Terry Pritchett. Season 2, but only if Simon… Read more »
So much fun, great characters and great actors. Please renew.
The Warch was brilliant! Please let’s have a 2nd series
It did take some getting into, but have watched full series 1& would love a second.
A surreal take on the masters work, but it’s great.Even Will S gets adapted,I fail to see the problem.
This program shares no DNA with Sir Terry Pratchett’s work. That’s a rough quote from his daughter. Watched 1st episode not going to waste my time on any more. This show is an insult to a great author, they actually urinate all over him.
Inspired by the Discworld novels? Dear Gods, I wish the producers of this crap had picked on another series! I really do not understand why they would take great stories of well loved characters with clearly established backgrounds and then ignore all that to create this mishmash of confusion. Utter rubbish.
Don’t link Terry Pratchett to this abomination. They took his character names and a rough outline of his world. Nothing more. This show needs to fade away so we can get a proper adaptation of Pratchett’s wonderful series.
I have loved Terry Pratchett’s Disc World for nearly 30 years. Vimes and his watch are great. I’m looking forward to series 2 of The Watch.
I found the show by accident and loved it, hopefully it will be renewed. You can watch it on the BBC Iplayer
