Tonight marks the last scheduled episode of low-rated Undercovers. NBC has 13 installments of the cancelled TV show but only scheduled 11 of them. There’s no word on when or if the other two will see the light of day. So, what are fans missing?
Undercovers co-creator and executive producer Josh Reims told Blastr back in October that, “The main direction that we’re headed in the overall scheme of things is we have some mythology that’s starting to play out in the show now which will get larger and larger as we go along.”
Reims continued, “We find out in episode 12 or 13, I can’t remember which, the real reason that Steven and Samantha were actually brought back to the CIA. And it’s not just to save Leo, who was their friend. There’s much more involved in that.” Based on episode titles, it would seem that number 13, “The Reason,” holds the big secret. Episode 12 is titled “Dark Cover.”
Reims added, “There’s stuff that Carlton Shaw [Gerald McRaney] doesn’t know. He was left out of the loop by his boss. So everybody is sort of thrown for a loop near the end of the season and readjusting to what things are, as opposed to what they thought they were.” Shaw’s boss, James Kelvin (Alan Dale from Lost) was just introduced.
Of the Undercovers cancellation, Reims told Zap2It, “I’m really proud of the show. I thought it looked amazing and I loved working with the cast and crew. We had a lot of fun.” He added, “The show turned out pretty much the way I envisioned, and when it didn’t, it was actually better.” Reims admitted that the show just couldn’t attract a big enough audience to survive.
Whether the final two installments are aired or not, the last episode of Undercovers will leave fans up in the air. Reims noted, “I think the episodes are getting stronger every week, and I’m sorry we have to stop at 13, because we had so many more stories to tell with these people. Not to mention we have a great mythology arc… and [it] ends with a cliffhanger.”
NBC hasn’t announced any plans to release the remaining episodes of Undercovers.
What do you think? Will NBC ever air the last two episodes? How would you like to see the series end?

This show has to stay on the air. I hope they will re-air it. I don’t believe they gave it a chance. I absolutely loved EVERYTHING about the show and will miss having my mid week adventure!
me too trina! *tear*
NBC is notorious for not having a backbone! They don’t give any shows a fighting chance before they kill em and move on to the next. I wonder if the executives relationships are the same way. Sure, Undercovers wasn’t a perfect masterpiece, but it was fun, entertaining, and interesting to watch, and I’m sure with a little time…the character development would evolve and loyalty would set in. Heck, out of all the shows on all the different channels, how do we know what are the best ones? It’s like a crap shoot, you pick one and stay with it for… Read more »
mitch . . . oh em gee! u definitely hit the nail on the head w/ this statement, “some people don’t even start watching shows until the second season…they are afraid of getting attached” that is why i only watched reruns for so long, but then something like this caught my eyes and interest and i was glued to the screen – i wouldn’t even answer the phone! i was eager for the next wednesday night to come & was thankful it wasn’t on a football night… i so wish something could be done for the show to continue on… Read more »
I work for NBC and before people tell us how much we suck let me tell you that we kept the show on for longer than anyone else would have. The ratings were atrocious and NBC lost a hell of a lot of money after having overbid to get it. The JJ Abrams name was mistakenly believed to carry more weight than it does. We spent tens of millions promoting the show and made less than half the money back per episode. NBC does not own the show and has nothing to do with the DVD release.
@Jack: Thanks for sharing that perspective. Based on the ratings, most other networks would certainly have pulled it much sooner.
There is a belief that we tank shows on purpose. No one wants a show to succeed more than the network. If we pay $4 million per episode and make $2 million back from advertisers then how can any fan say we were unjustified in canceling the show? It is about cost and profitability. If cost far outweighs profitability then a show better be FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Emmy winning quality or the network is canceling it. Thank you I have said my peace.
Thank you for the insight, Jack. Out of curiosity though, what goes into deciding if the last two eps could be put online or not if you already paid got them?
I think the show would have done so much better on ABC. ABC viewers would have better received the show. I personally do not watch anything on NBC, but I thought that would change . NBC needs a major revamping that is why most of their shows are canceled after a season or two. I have to admit I wish you did not bid on the show at all because your network just wasn’t for it.
@Trina: Interesting theory but I think fans of ABC’s The Whole Truth (which has even more unaired episodes left sitting on the shelf) would disagree with you.
@ trina . . . u’re (in the voice of barney from “how i met your mother”) awesome!!!
I’m not sure they’ll air them, if they do they’ll put them on a saturday. To end it, they’ll have to die or retire permeantly. But thats just me.And we could have learned more about both of their early days and maybe some of the secondary characters, like the boss. I guess not now. Thanks NBC. Keep everyone hanging again.
Keep the show, kill off the wife who is too prissy and doesn’t fit the show.
USE the female in the 12/29 episode WITH THE BETTER ATTITUDE. She is SO MUCH more believeable AND IS A BETTER FIT FOR THE MALE MAIN CHARACTER!!!!.
Replace Gerald Reims with someone sharper and its such a fun show. Please.
I am soooooo mad we don’t get to see the last 2 eposodes. I really likd that show and it’s a shame it got cancelled. I know alot of other shows the could have cancelled. Please let us see the last 2 shows so we can see what the show was all about.
I thoroughly enjoy this show and think it’s an absolute shame that it’s being pulled. NBC should give it a chance…and MORE exposure. Most people don’t even know about it.
I loved this show, and will miss it. NBC sucks; it really does. I would LOVE to know why they were really brought back.
My guess is that they will include the unaired episodes on the DVD’s.
I haven’t been this p/o’d with a TV show cancellation since “Dollhouse”. Fox sucks too.
Is it possible for this show to me taken to another network ??
I loved the show! It was awesome and I hate to see it go.
Tonight’s episode was definitely a step up from what we’ve been seeing, but my favorite episode will always be the third one, with that crazy German hacker. Man, now THERE was a great character — better than any of the regulars (with the possible exception of Leo). Ah, well.
I loved this show and I so sorry it’s ending. I wish they would move it to USA and keep it going. Shows are always ended right when the viewers start to get caught up in it. Plus it was nice to see a happily married couple in prime time that love each other and work together. I sincerely hope the rest of the series is aired and continued on another station. TV needs more programming of this calibur. They are replacing it with a game show. One that I guarantee I will never watch.
Kelly . . . i wonder if the writers/producers ever considered a different television station to air it on . . . i mean who watches nbc frequently? i generally watch the channel for football and then undercovers was introduced to me and i fell in <3 with it! and the lil dude that idolized the blooms was so innocently cute! i hope they'll consider a different station.
I really enjoyed Undercovers. I believe it’s important to see people of color in new ways. Undercovers went outside the box. It introduced smart, sexy and multiple language speaking characters who were all shades. May be TNT can bring it back to life.
I don’t want to see it end. It was just that good! If it absolutely, positively MUST end, have it run during or after May sweeps and have it explain everything in a fairly neat, concise package.
@ nat atkins . . . i totally agree w/ u, i do NOT want to see this show end either, i really enjoyed watching it – however instead of them solving the mystery before the end of the show, the writers could have strung the audience along until the following week, but over all i thought it was really good! y does every show i like always get cancelled?! that’s like the show that jeff goldblum starred in [i believe in the fall of 2008] as a detective that solved murders w/ the help of the ghost from the… Read more »
I honestly can’t believe that so much was put into this show and they have so little to show for it. I was a faithful watcher each week until the thanksgiving break. The writing was horrendous and unrealistic. I am an AA and i wanted this show to succeed so badly but the plot and story line was just too bad. There was no connection to the main characters, no connection between the main characters and no reason to watch the following week. This show should have had a greater element of danger and the gaps in how they did… Read more »
I really wanted to like it, but it was just too bad :-/
I hate that this is being canceled. It is one of the best of NBC program!
Loved the show! Really wish they would bring it back
you are right! It was THE best show on there, but I think it would have done so much better on ABC or CBS. Would have loved to watch it after watching NCIS or Castle .
okay i have this show i like . . . and i think some of you might like it too . . . however nbc is cancelling the show unless enough people sign the petition, will you help me w/ my cause?
after going to the website listed below . . . SCROLL DOWN TO # 4 AND SIGN THE PETITION . . . please (w/ a cherry on top)
