We’ll get to see young Sheldon Cooper continue to grow until 2024. CBS has renewed the Young Sheldon comedy series for three more years — season five (2021-22), season six (2022-23), and season seven (2023-24).
Airing on Thursday nights, Young Sheldon stars Iain Armitage, Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Annie Potts, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord, Matt Hobby, and Jim Parsons (narration). Recurring cast members include Wallace Shawn, Craig T. Nelson, Ryan Phuong, Wyatt McClure, Danielle Pinnock, and Rex Linn. Revolving around the early life of The Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon Cooper (Parsons), this comedy series follows a gifted and naive young Sheldon (Armitage) as he navigates his way through life while living with his very normal Texas family. Sheldon’s father, George (Barber), struggles to find his way as a high school football coach and as father to a boy he doesn’t understand. Sheldon’s mother, Mary (Perry), fiercely protects and nurtures her son in a town where he just doesn’t fit in. Sheldon’s older brother, Georgie (Jordan), does the best he can in high school. Sheldon’s twin sister, Missy (Revord), sometimes resents all the attention Sheldon gets, but also remains the one person who can reliably tell her brother the truth. Sheldon’s beloved Meemaw (Potts), his foul-mouthed, hard-drinking Texas grandmother, is very supportive of her grandson and his unique gifts.
The fourth season of Young Sheldon averages a 0.81 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.33 million viewers. Compared to season three, that’s down by 23% in the demo and down by 16% in viewership. The show is the network’s highest-rated comedy series.
Here’s CBS’ announcement about the multi-season renewal:
CBS RENEWS #1 COMEDY “YOUNG SHELDON” FOR THREE MORE SEASONS
CBS announced today that it has renewed television’s top-rated comedy YOUNG SHELDON for three additional years, beginning with the 2021-2022 broadcast season. The CBS original series premiered Sept. 25, 2017.
“Under Chuck Lorre’s and Steve Molaro’s deft leadership, this superb cast and gifted writers have truly brought these wonderful characters to life,” said Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment. “YOUNG SHELDON dominates the broadcast comedy landscape by over +2.5 million viewers and is the lynchpin of CBS’ top-rated Thursday comedy lineup. The humor, warmth and heart exuded by the Cooper family is an undeniable hook for the millions of fans who tune in each week. We’re excited to see what the next three seasons have in store for a slightly older Sheldon and all the Coopers.”
YOUNG SHELDON is television’s most-watched comedy, averaging over 9.6 million viewers each week. It stars Iain Armitage, Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord and Annie Potts. Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak are the executive producers for Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc., in association with Warner Bros. Television.
What do you think? Do you like watching the Young Sheldon TV series? Do you plan to tune in for season five? Do you think this three-season renewal is a good idea?
Keep the parents together, please don’t let George have an affair with that neighbor woman, how come that actress always breaks up families on comedy shows! Funny how she broke up Rebas marriage, on her show, I’m surprised you didn’t write that into the script. Since Annie Potts is dating her ex husband.
I think they have made young Sheldon too much of a brat. His attitude towards his family makes my blood boil. He’s very rude and uncontrollable. I will not be watching this show ever again. If this show would of aired before the big bang theory I would have never watched the big bang.
The casting of the female characters in this show is particularly great! Also, the father’s character is very sympathetic.
While not a fan of this show I would rather have it last multiple seasons instead of more garbage reality shows
I am super happy with this!!!!
YAY!!!
I like Sheldon and MeeMaw!
I still like big bang better!
So do I. Admittedly though I like the show more than I thought I would. They don’t have to do any more spin-offs after this though.
My favorite show! Thank you CBS!
We love young Sheldon it’s our Thursday night tradition to watch it and laugh
So happy to hear this, but hope that’s not going to be the end then, please let MEEMAW, get back with Dr. Sturgis, can’t stand her present boyfriend. But yes, bring Annie Potts and Reba in more as they are priceless together.
I also like Sturgis better!
Well, then, let us have more of Annie Potts and Reba McIntyre!
Super Happy ☺
YEAH! Love Young Sheldon!
Annie Potts is a fave.
We never miss Young Sheldon. So glad they have been renewed for 3 more years.
Well what can I say nothing to do the world this is the people on the watch? We miss people in real life over the type of shows. New ideas new clothes new ventures not this type of ritual.
They could always greenlight more garbage reality TV shows.
Which we don’t need
I agree. That’s the point I was making.
AMEN! to that
Problem with this is reality shows are garbage but so is Chuck Lorre Cookie cutter style production and directing
I don’t like all his shows but I do like this one, so it is what it is.
Don’t Understand why they had to do three more years couldn’t no more than two years of commitment. Did Chuck Lorre blackmail them into me forcing him to make a three-year commitment and then around the produce three more crappy TV shows for their net work? I know there’s been problems with the network executives from CBS network there was a power struggle but this shows that there is an internal problems within the network. The show will soon burn out
I actually wasn’t expecting it to go on for this long, but they’ve done a good job with it. So I’m happy.
I am happy and we get a chance to see Sheldon grow up! Great Job Mr Lorre!
