It appears that plans for season three of BBC’s Atlantis have sunk. The TV show, which airs on BBC America here in the States, has been cancelled after two seasons.
On Atlantis, a young man named Jason (Jack Donnelly) goes in search of his long-missing father and ends up on the shores of ancient Atlantis. He’s befriended by a pair of unlucky locals — former prize fighter Hercules (Mark Addy) and intellectual Pythagoras (Robert Emms) — as well as a revered Oracle (Juliet Stevenson). Others in the cast include Sarah Parish, Aiysha Hart, and Jemima Rooper.
BBC announced the show’s cancellation this way: “The final seven episodes of Atlantis will transmit on BBC One in spring. We would like to thank Urban Myth Films and all the cast and crew but the series will not be re-commissioned. We are very proud of both series but to keep increasing the range of BBC One drama we have to make difficult decisions to bring new shows through.”
Six of the 13 episodes of season two have aired so far in the US. No word on when they’ll be released here.
What do you think? Do you like the Atlantis TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a third season?
No fair leaving us hanging after Season 2, episode 13 of Atlantis! Why would the BBC cancel it before the story has resolved? Was a proper ending made and aired in Europe? Reallly bad form, BBC!
Loved these series! stayed up all night continuing to watch the next. The cast selection has the perfect synergy. Please continue with season 3!
