NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
I’m a fan of Allegiance. NBC really needs to bring this show back, a good spy type of show is a lot better then all the reality shows that are on the air now. But I realize that I’m in the wrong age group that all the networks are targeting with their stupid reality shows. And now the reality shows are proving to be so dangerous that people are getting killed trying to complete dumb tasks. Most of the young people today sit on their brains, and don’t really care what happens to the world that we live in. Just… Read more »
I am extremely disappointed that you have chosen to cancel Allegiance. I loved the show! You could have at least allowed it to end after a few more episodes rather than “beheading it” as you did. Please consider bringing it back.
I looked forward to watching this show. Very disappointed to learn it was cancelled. Good acting, a plot that demanded your attention; a step up from the normal offerings. Bring it back!
I rarely watch TV and Allegiance was the only show that had my allegiance; it reminded me of the original 24. So very sad.
I really enjoyed Allegiance. When I did not see it this past week I was disappointed and then upset to see Rhe Slap in the 10 o’clock time slot.
Who in NBC made the very STUPID decision to go up against the powerhouse ABC lineup? Now that was dumb! Move it to another night with lesser opposition and see if it can prevail.
Well, I just found out that it is available online so I guess I will check it out there. I hope they give it a good conclusion.
Definitely a fan of allegiance here. Watching it right now and sending this via my iPad. Quite disappointed that it’s cancelled…
Please reconsider canceling this show….networks now a days cancel everything that doesn’t do well within it’s first few eposides.Did you know that Dancing with the Stars had a poor first season, but look at it now! You have to give things a chance instead of giving up after a little bit.
They should have at least finished the series. Nobody likes to be left hanging.
36,I love the show. Wish it would stay on the air
BRING IT BACK!!!!!! This show was just getting good!!! Why the heck would you cancel a show in the middle of the season?? It is just like the old campaign slogan used by Nixon, Why change dicks in the middle of a screw? Works for this too. At least finish airing the 13 episodes that were filmed. Don’t just cut it off halfway and leave us hanging on whether or not Alex actually helps his parents get out of the SVR or not.
I really enjoyed Allegiance and watched it regularly. I would watch a 2nd season regularly. I am really annoyed about the sudden cancellation without completing the season! And I don’t like the Slap! It was NOT what I was looking for on Thursday March 12 after the Blacklist.
I gave this show a chance because of the brilliant casting. I really liked the lead young man. You networks never give the viewers a chance to establish any time to get to care about a character, before you give up. NBC & ABC are awful. So quick to give the axe. Viewers watch programs differently these days.
You can record several shows at a time. If your basing your consumer viewing on who’s watching right when it comes on, you need to re-think your analysis of consumer viewing. Please bring it back!
I thought this show was really, really good! My work schedule is from 11am to 11pm so I DVR’d each episode with great expectation! Why do the networks cancel the really good shows without really giving them a chance? I mostly watch CBS b/c the shows have lasted and the characters become familiar and I even look forward to see how their lives play out. Anyway, the only reason I even turn to NBC is for Blacklist, The Voice and Allegiance was very quickly a favorite also. Allegiance is fast paced /w several storylines going simultaneously and current with our… Read more »
I enjoy allegience very much and hope you will reconsider cancelling.
I can’t believe they would take the show off the air without at least finishing the season. I also can’t believe the mindless trash that seems to take precedence over programs that require the viewer to pay attention. Maybe the networks should not give up so quickly so that the TV audience can have an opportunity to get acclimated to thinking.
However, thank you for making the remaining episodes available for viewing.
I glad that at least NBC has decided to make the episodes #6-9 available on nbc.com. This week episode #6 was made available & I have just finished watching it. Next Thursday evening episode #7 will be available. Thank you NBC for allowing us to at least see the final 4 episodes which had already been taped.
I hope you will reconsider renewing Allegiance after all – perhaps as a summer show. Although many of us who like this show are not in your target audience age – our preferences should still be considered.
I’m definitely a fan of Allegiance. I also believe they need to consider the fact of DVR’s I am tapping several shows and watch them after they air mostly because I work and can’t watch most of the shows I like as they air. This show needs to be brought back, it has a great plot.
