NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
I thought the premise of the show was great, as was the first show. But, I must agree, it has definitely gone downhill since then. I wish they would have given it a chance, but we know how short the networks fuses are, so I’m not surprised. I hope we get to see the rest of the episodes that have been filmed, but I doubt it. Sorry, it was a good idea with high hopes!
After thinking about it I think I can see why this didn’t have the appeal of The Americans to the target age group. The Americans has a much younger draw because there’s a lot more sexy people in sort of modern soap format. A lot of action, deceit, and young good looking people. Where as the other really looks more like something designed for us older people or for the target groups parents. These kind of shows work better on BBCA where they don’t just look a that same target group so they can put on shows that are often… Read more »
I am so sick of NBC! No wonder they are having problems. This show is great! I TiVo it automaticly. I wonder if recording these shows effects ratings because lots of people do that now days. Anway, I’m with the other guy. If they do-in the Blacklist, that’s the end of NBC for me! JERKS!!
I agree, Mike! I guess if you don’t like watching mindless dribble sit/coms which are for people what 12-19? your SOL! At least Allegiance was a good sub for The Americans which we really like…but what’s really odd is after a few shows, we always wind up rooting for the bad guys…kinda like Breaking Bad…lol!
I was really getting to like Allegiance.
Don’t take it off the air.
The Blacklist is my favorite.
Really looked forward to Thursday night, watching Blacklist & then Allegiance. What is with NBC? I also didn’t see much advertising, prior to watching the show. Guess I’ll stick to HBO and/or Showtime for series that you can count on.
HATE you NBC. You always cancel shows that are slow to warm to an audience. CBS however, gave a commitment to one of their slow shows several years back. You know THE BIG BANG THEORY! Look how that turned out
I’m very disappointed. We started watching this show and enjoyed it. Hate that we won’t find out what happens. Really wish they would have given it more time. At least play all the episodes made! So sad!!!

NBC… YOU HAVE ISSUES!!! This show was awesome.. The least you could have done was finish the season… You guys are dirty. This show kept me at the edge of my seat… Maybe a better network will pick this show up.
Did the show even get much promotion? It’s hard to believe other “The Americans” fans didn’t come to this show too. Bad management
once again they don’t allow any time for a new show to get its viewers together I do the DVR and watch it later I’ve gotten so that I really enjoyed this show and now I won’t even know what happens so another time just really irritates the dickens out of me
I too record it.. I love this show…it would be nice if HBO or a premium network would pick this up.
We were totally pss’d off last night when we went to find the next episode to DVR and found out – THERE WASN’T ANY! We got set up really good by this show and we did not like that one bit.
Just like Heroes a few yrs ago…it didn’t end either. It just stopped. End of story.
“The Slap” is a copy of an Australian show that appeared on one of the pay TV channels (Showtime) and Australian version was okay but not great.
“Allegiance” is a knock-off of “The Americans” which has probably cornered the market on viewers interested in that story line. It also shot itself in the head with allowing the CIA kid to discover the parents secret on the first show. I never watched another episode because it lost its main hook.
I am tired of NBC not giving shows a chance or canceling them without a proper ending (like Revolution). I liked Allegiance and thought it was different enough from The Americans so it didn’t seem like a copy. Even if the premise wasn’t reality, what movie or TV program is? I usually think twice before investing my time watching new programs on NBC. Canceling programs quickly is nothing new for them. Then they’ll put re-runs of some crappy program on instead of airing the remaining episodes. So, NBC, please do it right this time and air the remaining episodes.
It is premature to cancel Allegiance after only 5 episodes. The show has so much potential. Hope NBC doesn’t cancel The Blacklist. I might have to boycott them if they do.
Cancel The Blacklist? Seriously? It’s the highest rated scripted show on NBC this season.
You, me and everyone else I know. What are these people thinking…or better yet… what are thy thinking WITH? Us people over 50 need something we can get our mental teeth into and Allegiance, Black List was definitely getting the job done.
I have not watched a show on NBC for several years, but I enjoyed this one. Guess I want give NBC a try again.
ditto
You DO know that All in the Family was a “copy” of a show in Great Britain? Just because something is like another doesn’t mean it can’t be good as well. Of course now we’ll never kno…
