NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
Well this sucks, just watched the whole thing on Hulu, look up to see when the next episode will go up and saw it was cancelled a month ago. Kinda wish Hulu would mark shows that have been cancelled – defeats the purpose of them putting it online… but damn I wish I hadn’t gotten sucked in.
I’ve been watching episodes on Hulu plus also. I wish Hulu (or a cable network) would pick it up and continue the show!
GIVE THE SHOW A CHANCE!!! THIS IS A FANTASTIC, WELL-ACTED, WELL-WRITTEN, WELL-PACED ACTION SHOW WITH INTERESTING CHARACTERS. Original and complex. How can a show develop an audience after 5 episodes??? I also watch On Demand. Does this mean we, as a viewing audience, have to watch shows we want to support LIVE, in real time??? If that’s the rules of the game, then let us know. This was absolutely one of my favorite shows on television and, in my opinion, one of the best shows on television. I don’t get it. If this criteria had been applied to Star Trek,… Read more »
This is a great show and they did not give it enough time! Kept switching the dates too making it hard to find. Always watched on-demand – do they count that? Please bring it back or at the very least show all remaining episodes!
I really loved the series allegiance am just so upset that it’s being cancelled, its goin to leave me with so much suspense I could kill myself(kidding) anyway NBC please consider
Don’t forget to sign the petition to save Allegiance! NBC has already responded in part to this petition by deciding to air all remaining episodes of season 1. https://www.change.org/p/nbc-save-allegiance
Since many of the people commenting here have seen through Episode 9 (#10 is Thursday, 4/9), anyone have a theory about the mole and killer of Michelle? I think Michelle is the mole in the CIA, but there could also be a mole in the FBI. I assume we are supposed to believe that Michelle’s killer is the Black Dagger operative who keeps showing up. Any other thoughts? Good the skeptical FBI agent, Faber be involved? It sounded like Sam’s voice on the 911 call made by the killer, in an effort to frame Alex. However, it likely was a… Read more »
I think Jason Faber is the mole — I think he’s one of two people in the FBI that Michelle contacted on her cell phone after Alex came to her with the info on black dagger, and I think Faber went to her apartment alone before the apparent meeting that she scheduled for 8pm with the other female FBI agent that Michelle contacted, and Faber shot her. Notice Michelle’s reaction wasn’t hey who are you and what are you doing here – it was more like she knew who was there, and then she says no “don’t do this”. Plus… Read more »
Yes, but the Black Dagger operative (dark skinned guy) also has also been seen with black gloves and a long overcoat and the person walking quickly down the stairs after Michelle was shot, seemed lighter on his feet than the heavyset Faber.
And why would Michelle be saying “we have to talk” after listening to Alex warn about a mole in the organization, unless she too was a mole?
I thought the same thing, but I assumed after watching episode 9 that the operative was busy targeting the man he wanted to steal information from (at that home, when he assembled a bomb and placed it in the bbq, posing as a Boston Bruins fan with that horrid fake Boston accent) when all the drama with Michelle and Alex played out and the mole later shot her.
I just re-watched Episodes 8 and 9, as I had missed some clues.
This is currently the most anticipated show (I can’t wait until Thursday before seeing Episode 10) that I currently watch.
For those who were left with Episode 5, its shameful what NBC did. Hopefully they receive information from the places where its still being seen (eg. Comcast In Demand) and will re-air during the slow summer months. I understand that they hadn’t finished filming at the time of the cancellation, so they had a chance to come to a conclusion by Episode 13.
Why is it that good ‘thinking’ shows never make it? Damn straight they should finish the series and even renew it.
if show is cancelled, at least let us see all the remaining episodes. That way we get some closure for NBC canceling the show.
I recorded the episodes then watched them over a two day period. It really left me hanging as I kept waiting for the next episode to air. I was really in to the show. It was well done and very intriguing. I am so bummed that there won’t be a finale! At least end it Like a mini series would have ended. I would really like to see a finale. It’s really not fair to the viewers who DO get invested in a show and then it’s just pulled with no ending of any sort. I’m sad to see that… Read more »
I enjoyed the tv. show Allegiance and wish that the network will re-consider and air remaining episodes. Also please continue with future seasons.
Loved this show had that 24 can’t wait for the next episode feel.
But like many am guilty of not watching live. Never heard about it till I binge watched it the last two days.
I’m bummed. Please reconsider NBC
Great show. I can’t believe it’s being cancelled. I hope they finish it and don’t leave us hanging.
Better yet, bring it back for another season!
Excellent show and well written. I seem to remember Lost not doing so well initially either……This show deserved a full season to develop before making a decision to cancel or not. Could moves like this be why people are preferring the cable shows and ditching the big networks???
I agree. I would have liked to see it continue. I was able to watch a few episodes on demand but now I won’t get any closure. Bummer
They always cancel the good shows.
