NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
High, high content quality on this show. Serious issues as well. For the educated mind. Might be the problem. Too bad it was not a CBS productions. Les Moonves and his network are strong on content. They would have had NCIS or CSI as a lead in to develop the audience and – bang – it would have happened. This show would have had a world wide cult following, no doubt. ABC is all about soapy dramas and NBC – used to be the powerhouse for the best stuff. Due to the diverse audience, it takes more time, patience, and… Read more »
Couldn’t agree more, Mary. It’s astounding to me that this thread continues day after day with people feeling they want to comment/ protest the show’s demise. This after it being pulled from network viewing back in February! Amazing!
my god such a good show don’t know why in the world they would cancel it..the show gave me goose bumps and the actors and actress are from some of the best shows ever,im calling ******** on this one
I was a religious watcher of allegiance. I’m so disappointed and I know many many people who will be to.
One of the best shows I have seen! Extremely well acted!!! Super script. Great production values. I watched all 13 episodes at once. Wow. I felt as if I was watching a feature film! Location shots – the whole thing. So sad this will not be on television again. It is all about the time slot – and this production really deserved better.
Just finished binge watching the 1st season. I didn’t watch it while it was on because I thought NBC was trying to copy “The Americans”, which is an outstanding series. I was pleasantly surprised though, this was a pretty good show and I think they should have left it on.
I love allegiance…I really don’t know why you guys cancelled it.could I atleast get a few episodes of season two..its a really nice series waayyy better than what I see on NBC
Am still waiting for season two its one of my best TV series ever imediately after Blacklist
Just binge watched the whole first season. Great show, maybe a little uneven in spots but I’m sure a second season would’ve ironed out some of the implausibilities. Perhaps it was hurt by it’s similarity to The Americans.
It has nothing to do with viewers these days, they look only at ratings which set the prices for advertising. It’s kind of backwards, they put ratings first instead of viewers, that’s how they pay the bills. Ratings are known to be highly inaccurate, but that doesn’t matter either.
I am soooooo mad! I’m losing hope in good tv! Like why even start a show just to cancel it??? All the good ones end soon. TV is just becoming reality shows or fake very bad acting. I really liked this show! Every episode kept you wanting more! It was new, edgy, daring and exciting!!! I’m so upset Lbvs
It is a very good and enjoyable show. Please please bring it back because I am really looking forward to it.
I loved Allegiance and thought it was one of the best series out there. Ratings??? I wonder how they get their ratings. No I don’t think that a lot of people knew about it, maybe the advertising of the series was low. Put it back into the system and advertise it a bit more and then judge. Too bad, no swearing, no sex so they cancel it.
I really liked the show Allegiance and am very sad to hear it was cancelled. So much better that so many other shows that stay on TV. And, I could only ever find it on On Demand. not fair
I really like the show understand why NBC always counseling programs
It’s called leading from behind. It was an excellent series, but not enough people knew about it. Networks make decisions based on ratings like politicians make decisions based on polls. I guess that’s the democratic way. I really enjoyed Allegiance, but I’m not their demographic!
