Back in the 1980s, ABC and CBS had hit shows that revolved around the oil business — Dynasty and Dallas — and each ran for many seasons. Now, the alphabet network is hoping to strike it rich with a new show called Blood & Oil. Will this series be a hit or a flop? Cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
On Blood & Oil, young couple Billy (Chace Crawford) and Cody LeFever (Rebecca Rittenhouse) move to Williston, North Dakota to seek their fortune. Billy’s drive attracts the attention of oil barron Hap Briggs (Don Johnson) and Hap takes him under his wing, much to the dismay of Hap’s son Wick (Scott Michael Foster). The rest of the cast includes Amber Valletta, Adan Canto, India de Beaufort, Miranda Rae Mayo, and Delroy Lindo.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
10/25 update: Cancelled already? Would you save this series?
10/23 update: ABC has cut this drama’s first season order to 10 episodes.
12/14 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you still like the Blood & Oil TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
How can ABC ever think Blood & Oil will be a success. Has a recent television show airing on ABC on Sunday at 9 PM Eastern time survived beyond a season? NBC offers Sunday Night Football and AMC throws in The Walking Dead. How is Blood & Oil going to compete with that competition? No matter how good a show might be, if it cannot find an audience, it will fail in the ratings. Was Blood & Oil supposed to be the alternative to Dallas? Was ABC and the producers of Blood & Oil expecting Dallas fans to watch another… Read more »
I love the show. Great characters.
Hope it gets renewed. It’s a winner.
Love the show!!!!!! Pleeeease go for a second season!!!!
Uh, no. There is nothing to “learn” about the characters. The show either attracts viewers or it doesn’t. And yes, you can glean quite a bit from one episode. I don’t like the premise. Two insignificant people go to an oil boom town and make a million dollar oil deal in less than 30 minutes of the first episode? That is quite the stretch. I don’t viewers are really interested in a big oil tv series. This is not the 80s.
PLEASE keep Blood & Oil going on ABC!! I LOVE this show & I know it will only get better from here!!!!! Please give this show a fighting chance
So I am writing to address the issue of too loud of background noise the quiet dialogue and dark lighting. My fiancé works on blood and oil here in Park city Utah and just so everyone knows the first two episodes were filmed by a different crew almost completely. I know that it will not be as dark (dimly lit/hard to see) as it has been the last two episodes. I have seen acting and scenes from up to episode 7 and it gets Amazing!!! Don Johnson is spectacular and the characters really fall into place well. Great way to… Read more »
So lucky to be working with India de Beaufort
You’re so lucky to be working with India de Beaufort! She’s mezmiring and so beautiful
therein lies the problem for this show, where it’s filmed. ND is flat as it gets, the snow-capped mountains aren’t fooling people. I used to live in MN, but read twitter, people are saying the same thing.
I’m glad to see that other people are commenting on the back ground music being so loud and distracting. I won’t watch the show anymore due to the fact I can’t hear the dialog. Simple as that.
Keep it. First, I’d like to address some of the other comments. Two people commented on the level of background noise, I found this really odd. I am an uneducat (due to med side-effects on my bp), I frequently have trouble focusing on tv. This is highly amplified when the background noise makes hearing the dialogue and when actors mumble or have thick accents. It is so bad no one in my family wants to watch TV with me due to my constant need to rewind. I only had to rewind once during the first two shows, the line, “college… Read more »
It is typically predictable and the background noise kills the moments.
I think i cannot have an opinion about the show because it has been impossible to hear/understand what is being said. The background noise and music simply overwhelm what the characters are saying. No other program has this level of distraction. I understand that having background conversations, street noise, etc., is an integral part of a show to add realism, but Blood and Oil have gone overboard and destroyed the show.
reserving opinion for a bit…
I’ve found I have a better feel for a new show by watching the first 2 episodes back-to-back. Either stack them on the DVR or watch them on ABC.
The only show I remember being absolutely hooked on by the pilot was Justified. Halfway through that pilot, I said, “I’m in.”
Don Johnson will be a big draw for some people. The Premiere was good so keep it. Much better than some of the crazy sitcom’s out now.
Sorry Crystal but we gave up after Don Johnson’s much younger wife showed up. I like Don Johnson but the story was weird and couldn’t they find a woman closer to his age? Really?
Keep it. With a show like this they need time for the viewers to “learn” the characters. You can’t do that in one episode. There are many layers to uncover. Give it a chance. You could potentially have another Dynasty on your hands
