One doctor may be leaving Chicago Med, but the series is holding onto three of its original cast members. S. Epatha Merkerson, Oliver Platt, and Marlyne Barrett have all signed new one-year deals to continue with the NBC medical drama, per Deadline.
Platt, Merkerson, Barrett, Steven Weber, and Jessy Schram star in the Chicago Med series, which follows the work and personal lives of the staff of Chicago’s state-of-the-art trauma center, Gaffney Chicago Medical Center.
Platt plays Dr. Daniel Charles, the chief of the psychiatry department; Merkerson plays Sharon Goodwin, the hospital’s chief administrator; and Barrett plays Maggie Lockwood, the charge nurse of the emergency department.
The following was said about the new deals:
The new deals with Merkerson, Platt and Barrett assure continuity on the One Chicago offshoot, which is undergoing a major behind-the-scenes transition ahead of Season 10, with co-showrunners Diane Frolov and Andy Schneider stepping down after nine years. They are being succeeded at the helm by Allen MacDonald. Onscreen, cast member Dominic Rains is departing after five seasons.
Chicago Med will return to Wednesday nights on NBC in the fall. The premiere date of the 10th season will be announced later.
What do you think? Do you enjoy this NBC series? Are you glad these three actors are continuing with the series, at least through the 2024-25 season?
