We’ve received several emails from readers who love CSI: NY and are worried that it’s been cancelled. Will the show ever return? The simple answer is, “Yes, it’s on hiatus until March 30th.” But, while the TV series hasn’t been canned yet, Gary Sinise and company could certainly be in their final season.
It’s no secret that the ratings have declined over the years and that’s probably one of the reasons that CBS moved it to a Friday night timeslot. It still brings in a respectable 10 million viewers each week but is one of the network’s worst performer in the prized 18-49 demographic, even when you adjust for the Friday timeslot. Year-to-year, the show is also down by 7% in the demo.
At the recent TCA press tour, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler noted that, though she loves the CSI shows, “Nothing runs forever. How you handle it, the most important thing is how you respect your audience, how you respect your cast, and being incredibly sensitive to how you wrap up any show when it ends a successful run. But we are in those talking stages now (about how to end the CSIs).”
It’s unlikely that CBS will end all three CSI series this year but they could certainly drop one or two of them. Based on the ratings, the New York version would be first in line to be cancelled.
What do you think? Is this the last season of CSI: NY? Should the series be cancelled or renewed for one more season?

It was not a good way to treat the fans that watch every Friday night, we never saw or heard an announcement of any kind! I had to go on the Internet to find the information!
We are in our 60’s and don’t appreciate all the Reality Shows at all!
It was pushed out for Undercover Bosses, what’s up with that?
Maybe you should not have pitted CSI NY against Fringe and Supernatural. Both these shows have definite followings. You will probably kill A Gifted Man also by now putting it in the 9:00 time slot. Time will tell.
Keep the CSI shows going…please put CSI Miami on some night where it will not be interrupted by football…For the record I despise so called reality shows which are only reality in name….The reality shows are staged to go in the direction the producers want so as to get the most ratings and the is not reality …
CSI New York is one of my favorite programs and now I know is about to be cancelled, think first before taking a decision of cancelling the show of all the CSI my NY one is my favorite.
Hey folks. You need to remember that this is CBS you’re talking about. They’re the one network that moves shows around as if it was a sport. And they are also the network that can’t seem to make a morning show work.
I’ll bet that if they put Julie Chen in the show, it would be placed in a better prime time location.
I would rather see STUPID shows like Big Brother, 2 1/2 Men, Big Bang Theory, Rob, and several others canceled.
I do agree, however, that the CSI shows do not portray the actual work of crime-scene investigators.
My family and I have watched CSINY since it first aired. It is a terrific show and it shows everyday life in the BIG CITY. We know it is fictional but it still shows reality. Why would you take off a show that it still has a good following. I am a senior citizen and I look forward to Friday nights to watch CSI NY and BLUEBlOODS which is a great show. Please to not put on another reality or comedy show I am not old fashioned I keep up with modern times. Hope the executives take this into conderation and… Read more »
All of the networks need to readjust their thinking on this 18-49 year old demo. They should concentrate instead on what works, and CSI: New York is certainly in that category. I agree with some other posters, this is MY favorite version of the series. Gary Sinise portrays the calm yet in command boss sooooo well. We like the other CSIs very well, but Sinise and crew just seem to hit one out of the park every time. I hope that CBS takes a very long look at their schedule and reconsiders dropping this fine program.
May I add my dismay to hear that CBS is even Thinking about taking this show off the air.
I guess the lure of fat people losing weight or has-beens dancing, such as one sees on NBC if one accidentally tunes to an NBC station, is just too alluring. Watch out, CBS, remember that NBC was once on top, then made some very bad decisions.
What is with the 18 to 49 demographics? I’m over 49 and love all the CSI’s. The new shows the networks are putting on this year are pretty lame. I find myself watching more of the cable shows. They don’t seem to be as concerned about the 18 to 49. It would be a shame to see any of the CSI’s cancelled.
I don’t understand why CBS is not promoting CSI:NY. Even though I like the Miami and Vegas versions, I love the NY version. They are more true to life than the others. And how can people watch these stupid reality shows over and over. Get a brain!
Right On! Great for seniors too! And Sela Ward adds so much.
please do not cancel – it’s a great show –
Of the three CSI shows, it is the best. If they want to get rid of one of them, it should be Miami, which has the weakest cast and characters. (What exactly does Horatio do? He is never seen doing administration, he does not do lab work. His main job is apparently to make smart comments at the beginning of each show — spoofed brilliantly at http://www.weebls-stuff.com/wab/csi/ )
i will be very upset toooo, i went crazy looking for it friday night,,and dang it,,,yeah quit those reality shows,,,csis are soooo good, and i really like the csi ny,,,what s going on,,come on,,let the adults have there shows ok,,,thank you,,please keep the same cast tooooo….
I just don’t get it. Twice they advertized new shows in the past couple of months, then when it aired they were reruns. This is my favorite of the 3 CSI’s on the air, and I just don’t get why the rest of my demographic are not catching how great it is. I like the other CSI’s just fine, but this is the one I will chase all over the schedule to find, and even watch repeats over and over again. If the network is going to get rid of anything it should be a show like the Amazing Race… Read more »
It would be insane to take CSI New York off the air. It is clearly the best of the three CSI shows as far as acting and storylines go. Also, you can’t go wrong having New York as your backdrop/cast member. What other fair city has as much hustle and bustle, beauty, action, sports, arts & politics…to be interwoven in their stories. They have taken too many quality shows off the air and replaced them with “so-called reality” shows and fluffy-unfunny comedies. I would think that would make the CBS executives even more nervous about the future of the network.… Read more »
