We’ve received several emails from readers who love CSI: NY and are worried that it’s been cancelled. Will the show ever return? The simple answer is, “Yes, it’s on hiatus until March 30th.” But, while the TV series hasn’t been canned yet, Gary Sinise and company could certainly be in their final season.
It’s no secret that the ratings have declined over the years and that’s probably one of the reasons that CBS moved it to a Friday night timeslot. It still brings in a respectable 10 million viewers each week but is one of the network’s worst performer in the prized 18-49 demographic, even when you adjust for the Friday timeslot. Year-to-year, the show is also down by 7% in the demo.
At the recent TCA press tour, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler noted that, though she loves the CSI shows, “Nothing runs forever. How you handle it, the most important thing is how you respect your audience, how you respect your cast, and being incredibly sensitive to how you wrap up any show when it ends a successful run. But we are in those talking stages now (about how to end the CSIs).”
It’s unlikely that CBS will end all three CSI series this year but they could certainly drop one or two of them. Based on the ratings, the New York version would be first in line to be cancelled.
What do you think? Is this the last season of CSI: NY? Should the series be cancelled or renewed for one more season?

It’s a shame to even consider ending either show; there are so few shows on that are entertaining and are not totally inane sitcoms or ridiculous “reality” shows. It’s also a shame that the people the broadcasters are concerned with have become so “dumbed down” and self serving that they don’t “get” a show that might actually make them think or that shows people being concerned about other people’s welfare instead of just themselves; or that doesn’t have everyone sleeping with everyone else!
CSI NY has been the best of all the the CSIs for the past few years. CSI, with the departure of William Petersen in the lead and subsequent supplanting by Laurence Fishburne and now Ted Danson is not nearly on the same level as when it debuted. CSI Miami, with David Caruso, is so predictable that the plots are a seemingly an endless amount of “boring”. And David Caruso’s chief assignment is to pose. Count how many times the cameras catch him first from one side, then the other with no apparent motion. It’s as if he’s told to stand… Read more »
Like many CBS decisions, this has short-sighted thinking written all over it. CBS may prize the 18-49 age group, but that is not the most profitable group for advertisers. They need to pay more attention to household income and less attention to raw age statistics. The age group among which CSI NY does best is the 50-64 age group. That group has a considerably higher disposable income than the “priz, and thus is a more profitable advertising demographic. The challenge for CBS is learning how to market the demographics they have instead of using the same market approach and trying… Read more »
We love CSI and CSI NY! I would certainly hope that neither series is cancelled any time soon.
CSI NY is one of our favorites, It would be a shame to cancel it !!!!!! We really enjoy all of the CSI series, Gary Sinese and all of the cast are good,
I think this is a great show and I always looked to the CBS Friday night lineup with CSI NY and Bluebloods. Pleaseeeeeeeee keep the show on the air and in that time slot. It made for a great evening!!!
CSI NY is an excellent show and is one of the few shows that I look forward to watching each week. Gary Sinese is fabulous in his role, and the rest of the cast is awesome. I hope that you won’t inclue this show in any that you may think of cancelling.
In the last two seasons the writing has improved tremendously.Time slots can make or break any show. It’almost like networks try to kill off shows by putting them in very crucial spots. Some new shows are so rediculous it makes no sense at all.If it isn’t broke, don;t try to fix it.keep all three csi shows.
CSI NY is now the best of the three. If you must cancel, Miami and Vegas need to go first.
Please do not cancel CSI NY, it is a great show with a great cast and we never miss it. We watch all of the CSI;s, they are the only ones we look forward to every week. Move it back to a better time slot and get people interested again. We do not want it to end.
Went to watch CSI NY Friday night and that stupid show Gifted Man was on UGH!!! Does CBS know what they are doing? CSI NY is one of the few good shows left on TV along with the original CSI. Gifted Man please ……… Well now I won’t be watching CBS on Fridays anymore. They just lost another viewer I’ll have to find something else.
To Whom It May Concern: I think that you should keep CSI NY, because the cast is great and I really enjoy watching the chemistry that the cast has. To be honest I like all three CSI’s. I think that you need to sit down and brainstorm on how to make the show a better watched show, so that you are able to keep it up and running. I know that I would be very disappointed if you would cancel them, but I understand that with the statistics of the shows being down, but you should really sit down and… Read more »
