It seems that stakes and network executives can take a vampire down. NBC has cancelled the Dracula TV show after one season of 10 episodes.
NBC’s Dracula is a retelling of the classic Bram Stoker story. In London, Dracula (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is posing as an American entrepreneur while he seeks revenge on those who cursed him. He doesn’t count on falling in love with a woman (Jessica De Gouw) who looks just like his deceased wife. Others in the cast include Thomas Kretschmann, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Victoria Smurfit, Katie McGrath, and Nonso Anozie.
The show’s debut did respecatably for a Friday night show but dropped much lower in subsequent weeks. The first season averaged a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.25 million total viewers.
Hannibal and Dracula are both produced under a unique deal that costs the network much less than other original drama series. Hannibal’s license fee is set to go down for season three so the network ultimately decided to renew that show and cancel Dracula.
It seems like Dracula’s studios could still potentially produce a second season for another outlet but there hasn’t been any news of that thus far.
What do you think? Do you think Dracula should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Would you follow the series to another channel or pay to see a second season?
I like Dracula and I wish it will be back on. I am disappointed that they are cancelled Dracula.
PPPPLEASE bring this show back! It is much more superior to Hannibal! It can truly be considered one of you BEST!!! It is unfathomable how you could cancel it! Seriously guys—-THIS IS A GREAT SHOW!!! Do your research & see how the fans love it & WILL watch it IF you bring it back…. OTHERWISE, I say if you don’t have sense enough to act on a good thing when you have it, SOMEONE ELSE—SOME OTHER STATION PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PICK THIS UP!!! These actors deserve far better than this for such a stellar job!!! Don’t let it end!!! 😀
I definitely would follow this show on any other channel & believe with the huge fan base that it will succeed.
dracula should have been renewed. the quality & popularity demands a 2nd season. I hope that whatever difficulties arise can be resolved as their is a huge fan base waiting for the continuation of this show.
What was NBC thinking. Couldn’t wait until Friday night to see Dracula. It had a perfect spot right after Grimm. I don’t think the execs know what is considered good TV. I agree with someone else to then put the show on in the summer time. Always looking for a really good show to watch.

Thanks
Well NBC you have done it again by canceling Dracula, a show that I truly enjoyed. Maybe its time for me to stop watching your other shows and maybe the people who make these decisions for you will get the message! NBC, you don’t know what you have done! Brainless people!
Just when I thought it wasn’t possible for me to lose any more respect for NBC. While this news doesn’t surprise me, I am very disappointed by it. I came to enjoy Dracula more and more each week and was really hoping it would be given a second season. I’ve always enjoyed the story of Dracula and thought this was a fresh and unique take on it. It was beautifully filmed and I very much enjoyed Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ portrayal of the Count. I do wish another network would pick this up and give it new life elsewhere because it… Read more »
Another network needs to be smarter than NBC and buy the rights to this show and bring it back. But NOT an network that is only available on premium channels like HBO, Showtime, etc. On the ones anyone can watch w/o having to go broke to see it like have to with Games of Thorns. Never saw it due to being on an network I refuse to pay the premium cost to see it. Not right!
Why cancel a series like Dracula after just 10 shows out but renew Hannibal ? It makes no sense the actors and the beautiful location make a must for renewal .. I will watch Dracula no matter which other network takes and runs with, put these fine actors back to work !!!
I have read countless comments and all said they wanted this show to stay, yet NBC cancels it. Not that anyone at NBC reads any of these but would be nice if some one could explain when so very many people want this show they cancel it….but yet keep on crap. This was one a very few good shows left to watch and they cancel it when clearly so many people wanted this show to say. NBC could you please rethink this or do you not care about your viewers ?
It’s about ratings and money. It’s business. Of course there are people who wanted it to be renewed. But 1 million plus is nothing compared to shows that have six million and up. Networks crunch numbers…(which is their right…as said it IS a business.).
Doesn’t mean I’m happy. Loved the show and was hoping for its return.
They axed Dracula, I’m banning NBC and all its related companies from my life and my family’s, including all forms of entertainment (films, dvd, audio, etc). Sure as h311 they won’t ever get a cent from me.
I´m from Germany, but got the chance for watching the series.I´ve been overwhelmed by the outstanding crew. The actors did their best job and without question, Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been best Dracula ever ! Normally I´m not a fan of the genre, but
I´ve been thrillled.
If I´d be American, I would be certainly done with NBC forever. There is nobody to blame
but NBC for ignoring the interests of fans in in such an unfair way.
Once again I discover a good show and sure enough…cancelled…
Every time. I don’t know why I bother. My time is valuable and I only watch shows the producers put time into. Don’t watch crap thrown together.
Yes, I can see Jonathan Rhys Meyers in other endeavors and hope to do so. But there was something so special about seeing Dracula each week in my home. The cast was brilliant, the sets were beautiful, and the twist on an old story was refreshing. NBC did an absolute injustice to the show. It was only ten episodes and they did everything they could to chop that up with several delays instead of giving the show a chance to build up an audience with a steady showing each week. But, that’s ok. I am glad I got to see… Read more »
I think it got “chopped up” because Jonathan was in rehab and they had to work around his schedule.
