The ABC TV show about what happens in the future apparently doesn’t have one. FlashForward has been cancelled after one season.
FlashForward begins as the world’s population blacks out for 137 seconds and they “flash forward” to see visions of their lives six months in the future. The series’ ensemble cast includes Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Zachary Knighton, Peyton List, Dominic Monaghan, Brian F. O’Byrne, Courtney B. Vance, Sonya Walger, and Christine Woods.
The series debuted in September and attracted a 4.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 12.47 million viewers. With a lot of buzz, it seemed like ABC had a hit. For week two, the ratings dropped to a still very respectable 3.7 and 10.73 million.
But then viewership just kept falling, hitting a low of a 2.1 in the key demo and just 7.1 million viewers. Then, ABC pulled the series for three months. The spin was that they would relaunch FlashForward after the Olympics.
The network gave the return a significant amount of promotion but it didn’t help. FlashForward’s ratings were even worse and they just kept dropping. They’ve gotten so bad that The CW has been beating them in the demo.
To no surprise, ABC has cancelled FlashForward after one season of 20 episodes. The series finale will air in two weeks, on May 27th.
What do you think? Did FlashForward deserve a second season? Could ABC have saved it? If given the chance, how would you wrap it up?

What? Is anyone at ABC even paying attention. FF is a wonderful show. And once Lost is over, ratings for it will pick up. Give it a chance guys, how do you decide after one season..unbelievable.
i am very saddend today as i am hearing news that the few non-animated shows on television i actually watch and look forward to have been cancelled. (Heroes & FlashForward). i am now questioning why i even invest any of my free time watching television. everytime i find myself interested in a show with a good storyline, acting, and writing; the show is inexplicably cancelled and not given any closure to the story that had me intrigued for the past 6 months or more. i know that ABC wants to make money, i just don’t understand why they feel that… Read more »
ABC must be retarded. Best show on ABC. Way better than Lost. Lost could be one of the stupidest shows ever created.
I believe it should have gotten a second season. It takes time for a story such as Flashforward to gel and get its legs. It was premature to cancel it after one season. Also the interruption in mid season also didn’t help with developing a flow. You can’t expect a show (new) to develop a momentum if it is disrupted for three months and then placed back on the air with no true promotion. I noticed the weeks before it’s re-airing other shows on the network ( V ) and ( Happy Town ) where promoted but little to no… Read more »
I’m so sad…I loved FlashForward a lot!
I do agree that there were some boring episodes like they didn’t have much inspiration, but all in all the series is thrilling and I want a season 2!!! 🙁
Finally I get into a show and ABC cancels it but renews that crap V, who’s running programming there a monkey!!!
like i have said before….mind boggling……….one after another many of my favorite shows that i invest in get cancelled–ones with ORIGINAL & engaging writing & excellent ensemble casting with characters you actually care about in favor of inane comedies and game shows, or gasp…….those detested reality shows. Is there no one out there with an iq or imagination anymore?????? Flash forward had all of the assets of lost (look at its history!) with a lot more ongoing answers to reward the intense frustation that some felt with that show. Me included & i still loved it! It challenged the mind!… Read more »
I don’t know if I’m more upset with ABC deciding to cancel this show or with ABC for being the reason that viewers dropped! Why on earth would you take a brand new show, such as FF, which makes people think and put it on a hiatus? No wonder people forgot about it! My family really enjoyed this show and now after Lost ends on May 23rd I have nothing to look forward to. Flash Forward has a great ensemble cast, and terrific acting. I think if this show had premiered after Lost ended it’s run, and if it would… Read more »
well, i think that the show is pretty good and interesting. till episode 20 which have shown so far, i can see that there will be a season 2 and more. Can’t believe that ABC cancelled FlashForward, frankly saying, its a waste to cancel such a nice show. even though the viewers were dropping, that doesn’t mean that the viewers wont increase again……
Well … What a shame…. I really enjoyed this show and I looked forward to seeing it each week. To be honest this was the only show that I watched on ABC. This goes to show that ABC does not have clue about what their viewers really want. I hope another network will pick this up.
This is just more of the same from the suits and corporate egos in the boardrooms. These people probably don’t even watch television. The Nielsen Family-way of gauging television has got to end. All these people watch are reality shows and that is what keeps getting fed to us. “Dancing with the Washed-up Losers, America’s Fattest *******, Survivor, Amazing Snooze Race, ” etc. First an intelligent show like “Life on Mars” is crapped and now “FlashForward.” But what stays? “V” — a horrible remake of an equally bad 1980s show. It failed in the 80s and it will fail miserably… Read more »
Thank you for the website! Very informative! You are full of wonderful information to satisfy we TV fans!
A good story cannot be told in the first chapter. That is only the beginning. A good story takes time to develop, the characters to grow, the drama to build, and the resolution to be reached….
Flash Forward is not a sitcom of instant gratification but rather an action drama filled with excellent actors and great characters who bring alive the premise that for some reason, everyone in the world was given a glimpse of the future…. why can’t something like this just be good enough.
What goes in it’s time slot, another stupid reality program?
Flashforward deserves a second season. Just like Chuck, it deserves a bit of additional maturing, good advertising and a network that cares about brilliant programming. NBC made the mistake with Kidnapped (2006).
Finally a intelligently well thought out sci-fi show for T.V. and of course rather than give it a shot such as 9pm friday night , the network brain trust decides to throw the baby out with the bathwater. When will these people get a clue , did they not learn anything from star trek in the 60’s. C’mon guys , give us a break and don’t cancel this show , its great, its original , its intelligent and it needs a second year. Trust me , it will continue to find its audience..its a winner , now prove to us… Read more »
