What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the ABC television network, The Good Doctor stars Freddie Highmore, Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzalez, Chuku Modu, Beau Garrett, Hill Harper, Tamlyn Tomita, and Richard Schiff. The medical drama comes from from House creator David Shore and Lost vet Daniel Dae Kim and is based on a South Korean series of the same name.
The Good Doctor centers on Dr. Shaun Murphy (Highmore), a new surgical resident with autism and savant syndrome. His incredible memory and keen ability to perceive spatial relations inform Shaun’s gifted comprehension of his patients. Meanwhile, his autism can hinder his ability to communicate with others. With only the help of his advocate, Dr. Aaron Glassman (Schiff), Shaun must challenge the skepticism and prejudices of the hospital’s board and medical staff, in order to do his job and save lives.

Telly’s Take
Will The Good Doctor be cancelled or renewed for season two on ABC? It premiered with very healthy ratings, was picked up for a full season, and a thriving drama is just what the doctor ordered for the Alphabet Network. As long as the ratings don’t drop that much, my gut says it will easily score a renewal. For now, I will keep an eye on the Nielsens and will update this page with breaking developments, as well as any change in this show’s prognosis. I absolutely love this show! I have an autistic son and it’s been so wonderful to see a show that highlights autism. I love the message TGD sends, how it helps people better understand autism and also show society how unique, special, and brilliant an autistic person is. I feel this show helps show autism in a positive way and it brings awareness to society. Autism doesn’t have a “look” and it’s not a “disease”, autistic people don’t need a cure. I hope this show gives people insight to autism to hopefully open their minds and give people some understanding… Read more »
Why is it when we get an interesting, decent, weekly show, it may not get renewed. Please, another season! Not to mention the attention, understanding, and empathy for autistics in your community.
The Good Doctor should definitely be renewed for season 2!! These re runs are getting old. It will lose its ratings if new shows are not seen soon! I love the show and look forward to it every week!
Finally there is something worth watching without nudity, violence, hatred- should I go on? There are a few of us left that remember what family tv night was like. The Good Doctor is different and a well deserved breath of fresh air. I’ve read some complaints – and everyone has opinions – but this is a script, written for actors, to “portray” characters. Poor Dr. Murphy, he may have been created to be Autistic along with Asbergers Syndrome, but he cannot possibly learn and practice enough to be 100% convincing. The Good Doctor Is My Favourite Show of all the Shows This guy Highmore really inspires me I live in the same city in where this show is filmed and I would love to be as a part of the audience in this show. Please do not cancel this show it needs to stay on for a long time.

I think this show is terrific. Beats all other hospital soaps hands down. I just can’t wait for series 2.
We love, love this show. We will be so disappointed if the show is canceled. You’d think ABC could really benefit off a show that represents something as great as this diverse cast that also covers a handful of relevant socio-cultural issues/norms. Huge step up from shows like the bachelor and what was/is the never ending greys anatomy.
