Year-to-year, Hawaii Five-0 was down by an astounding 47% in the demo (vs a 3.4 rating) and 34% in viewers (vs 12.19 million). It should be noted that last season’s opener had the advantage of airing on the same night as the first Ashton Kutcher episode of Two and a Half Men.
Still, this season’s opener represents an all-time low for Hawaii Five-0 in both the demo and viewers. That’s not good.
Reference point: The 2011-12 season averaged a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.67 million viewers.
Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Hawaii Five-0 TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?

I tried to watch this show, but it just doesn’t click for me. What do I watch then at this time? Nothing. Just because something is showing on TV doesn’t mean I have to watch something.
I am from Holland and I a absolutely love Hawaii Five 0. Especially McGarret, they are a great pleasure to look at, so please make much more seasons, we in Europe also loves them. It is for me the best tv ever made.
It is in it’s third season. After one show they talk about canceling it? Move it to Tuesday, after ncis and nica la and move cis back to thursday.
love the show i watch online free when i cant see show on mon. night
Nielsen screwed up! Hawaii Five O is a fantastic show – the best show on TV! The season premiere was spectacular and anyone who watched that lousy Castle or Revolution missed out big time! It is funny that Hawaii Five O reruns consistently blew away Castles reruns all summer, now all of a sudden Castle beats Hawaii Five O? Strange. Revolution is just another ridiculous show from the Nitwit Boobcasting Co. CBS would be a fool to cancel Hawaii Five O based on Nielsens 1 week US ratings (internationally, Hawaii Five O beat its competition)! I agree that Hawaii five… Read more »
Perhaps the crap writing, dead end story arcs, and missed opportunities with characters is catching up with them?
Your negative comments must mean you watch a competing show on another network! Please be polite! H50 has very talented and charismatic actors who do an outstanding job each week, capturing the audience with their superb and fascinating story lines, humorous lines, highly emotional and dramatic scenes, plenty of action and stunt scenes and is filmed entirely on the beautiful island of Hawaii! I believe that CBS did not do a good job promoting the season premiere of H50, unlike its other shows! Some people were not even aware that their favorite shows are now being airing on CBS this… Read more »
I love Hawaii Five-0 and the very talented young cast! Season 3 premiere had intense drama and emotional scenes, tons of fantastic action, humor and great story arc and character development! Monday night is a difficult night due to Monday Night Football! In my opinion, many people were not aware that new shows have starting airing on the major prime time networks. In the last few years, H50 has averaged 12 million viewers, even more (approximately 14 to 15 million viewers) when DVR +7 viewings get added to those numbers. There must be technical mistakes at Nielsen for this recent… Read more »
H50 is the best show on TV. It has it all: good stories, Grace Park, great scenery, Grace Park, good acting, Grace Park, wonderful guest stars, Grace Park, good theme song, Grace Park, a talented and attractive cast, Grace Park, good humor, Grace Park, good character development, Grace Park, exciting action, Grace Park, carguments and…did I mention Grace Park? I admit to being a fan of “Castle” (which I record) and I’ve seen the first episode of “Revolution” which was okay but too much like other shows done better (i.e. “Falling Skies” etc.) but H50 has them both beat IMHO.… Read more »
running out of gas…or is it pineapples.
I was astonished at the lack of promotion! I heard promotion after promotion for the “CBS Monday lineup” and the promotion ended with Mike and Molly. It was if the H50 season premier was not even happening. The competition drew from the same audience pool as H50 and the OnDemand & DVR viewing for the H50 9/12 episode will be enormous. I also heard a lot of disappointment from those who watched Revolution. I suspect H50’s numbers will recover significantly for the Season 3 second episode. It is a fabuouls show with a stellar cast, score and script. Truly appointment… Read more »
im shocked by these numbers, this show is soo good i hope they keep making it.![🙁](https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.0.3/svg/1f641.svg)
if the ratings will drop any more CBS will cancel the show, when a show hit any lower than than 9 mil, then it’s considered for cancellation
Two things..I think people will not stay with Revolution on NBC and come back to FIVE-o after a while, and I think CBS should reconsider shifting a successful lead in line up on Monday night. Have they taken into account DVR most of my friends watch it that way?
My wife and I really enjoyed the first two episodes of Revolution. It’s something we can watch together and enjoy. I think 5-o is for an older demo, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Hawaii Five O is for a young and older demo. My husband and I are in my twenties and love it!!! We don’t see how you could possibly enjoy watching Revolution over Hawaii Five O. Hawaii Five O has great plots and plot execution, great writing, great cast, great acting, humor, beautiful scenery etc…..
I am sure the rates will increase, with the lack of promotion of the show many people wasn’t aware of its premiere, CBS is to blame!
Hawaii Five-0 is a fabulous show!
How can anybody make such predictions at such an early time? The show is great and its main star, Alex O’Loughlin, truly amazing. You have a talented cast, fantastic stories and a beautiful setting. This show will only go up in its ratings. At this point, some TV viewers are sampling new shows and will DVR older shows. As soon as they grow tired of the new shows, ratings will get better.
I hope the show lasts for years. It’s so hard to keep track of all the show’s season premieres, I ‘m sure some viewer missed it. Ratings will surely improve.
I think a 47% drop is unbelievable for such a great show! Has there ever been a successful show for 2 years running fall so low? How can a show that averaged 12,000,000 viewers last year drop by almost half? There must be some mistake by Nielsen…
