Last week, after just two airings, ABC cancelled and pulled their new TV show, Of Kings and Prophets. Was the network too quick to pull the trigger? Were they justified?
Of Kings and Prophets is based on the Biblical Books of Samuel. The story is told through the eyes of the battle-weary King Saul, the resentful prophet Samuel, and the resourceful young shepherd, David. The three are on a collision course with destiny. The cast includes Ray Winstone, Olly Rix, Simone Kessell, James Floyd, Haaz Sleiman, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Jeanine Mason, Mohammad Bakri, David Walmsley, Louis Talpe, Nathaniel Parker, and Lyne Renée.
The series premiered on March 8th to a very disappointing 0.77 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.33 million viewers. The second episode saw the numbers drop even lower, falling to a 0.54 in the demo and just 2.42 million viewers. Those are terrible numbers for a major network and are likely some of the lowest that ABC has ever received.
One has to wonder if the ratings would have dropped even lower in week three or if they would have risen instead.
What do you think? Was ABC too quick to cancel and pull Of Kings and Prophets off the schedule or, was the network justified? Should it have been cancelled sooner?
There is a simple solution for those who did not like this show, turn it off! ABC should have stood up to these bullies, and not given into them by canceling the show without giving it a chance to build an audience.
I was really looking forward to the next episode.i keep hearing how abc does this type of things. Will probably wait next time until a show has a few more episodes before watching any of them. Really disappointed in abc.
Great show, don’t cancel it. What’s wrong with people not watching?? The best show yet and it gets cancelled. Let some other network pick it up. Give it a chance!
So sad they canceled it. I watched it on demand and immediately was intrigued. Was searching Tuesday night for it again. Decided to look online to find this devastating news. Crap TV continues! People don’t want to think or learn anymore!!
I likes this show. Please play it or sell it netflix. I know they will air it
As a student of the Old Testament, the stories told in this series were fine. A couple of things out of order, but well done none-the-less. The quick glance of the sacrifice outside of Jesse’s home as David was walking in, was ‘spot-on’ accurate. They didn’t give it time, and I’m afraid many Christians don’t want to hear that our heroes of the Bible were greatly flawed. Just like everyone else.
I so AGREE! I loved this show and I’m disheartened that they would pull it! I hope that HBO does pick it up!
So sad this happened. Then again if it has nothing to with trash tv it is not considered good. For once please don’t make it about the money, I’m sure you all have plenty. Bring it back!! If you don’t want it sell it to a channel that will.
I’m so tired of these fanatics complaining about showe like this. There was sex back in biblical times as well as violence. I read how the complaints from some religious sects helped prompt the cancellation but let’s not sugar coat what happened in those days and no forget all those who has suffered by those opposed to their beliefs. This show was excellent and insightful I will truly miss it and hope someone not scared like HBO or another network will pick it up.
Yes it was definitely cancelled to quickly. I know it’s all about money to the networks but at this era in our lives, we need more shows like this one, teachings of sorts of Christianity. I do not understand how a show like law and order can be on the air for 20 seasons and this one can’t make a complete season. Also, like was said above, Lucifer, has no sign of cancelling that I’ve seen of. Smh, what’s wrong with this picture.
Yes, it was canceled too quickly! This is not the first time ABC has done this. This is why I’m very leary to watch anything ABC puts on TV. They have a bad habit of yanking it off the air before it even has a real chance of getting a fan base. This show was great and my family was enjoying it very much. I was looking forward to the third episode and was upset when I found out it was canceled. Way to go ABC! Think I will stick with other networks for now on.
Never understood why ABC for the past 2 years cancelled really good premiere shows within each show’s first season. I was a fan of ABCs Dracula, True Crime last fall and now this show which barely had a chance. Please, before you cancel the show, let the viewers get to see the show’s entire season. I would have been a big fan and pass the word to other viewers to start watching. if not, can any of us watch the rest of the season on ABC online or sell it to Netflix.
should not have been cancelled good series should have been aired
Why did you cancel after two episodes? My family and friends thoroughly enjoyed it. Way too soon!!!!!
Yes it was, I guess it’s OK to show a series about lucifer, but not OK about about God, as,a parent I’ll choose God every time. I was so happy thanks for nothing.
