A Lord of the Rings series is coming to the small screen soon, but it is not coming to HBO. The network did not pick up the series.
It is going to Prime Video instead!
HBO revealed the following about why it passed on the big franchise, per a Variety report:
“I’d rather own our IP [intellectual property] 100%… and I’d rather have the ability to work with a product that is inextricably linked to our brand.”
HBO has plans for five prequels to Game of Thrones, so fantasy fans will still have plenty to check out on the cable network.
Do you plan to watch The Lord of the Rings series on Amazon? Tell us what you think.
I loved the movies, and would love to see the series on Amazon. Cable TV’s movie networks like HBO are just too expensive, and they repeat too much during a 1 month period. Go Amazon!
HBO passed on it because there is no sex and nudity. 😉
I just wish someone would pick up the rights to Raymond Feist’s first 3 books. The Riftwar Saga is begging for some small screen love.
Amazon has released some great shows with Transparent and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel topping the list. There’s no reason to think they can’t knock a LOR series out of the park.
