The latest medical drama on CBS is going the way of Three Rivers and NBC’s Mercy and Trauma. Miami Medical has been cancelled after one season on the air. However, there is some good news.
Miami Medical follows the exciting lives of a group of talented surgeons who work at one of the best trauma centers in the country. The Friday night drama features Lana Parrilla , Jeremy Northam, Omar Gooding, Mike Vogel, and Elisabeth Harnois.
The CBS medical series got off to a poor start on April 2nd with a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.59 million viewers. In week two, the numbers dropped to a 1.4 rating in the demo and 7.1 million viewers. Viewership has continued to tumble and thus far, the season has averaged a disappointing 1.3 rating in the demo and 6.7 million viewers.
To put these figures in perspective, Numb3rs’ season had better numbers — an average of a 1.8 rating and 8.27 million — and was ultimately cancelled.

And now, like so many of the other medical dramas from this season, Miami Medical has been cancelled. There won’t be a second season.
On the positive side, the show was scheduled to finish its run tonight, leaving five of its 13 episodes unaired. But now, CBS has added some additional airdates.
Next Friday’s will be a repeat of the pilot episode. Then, original episodes will return on June 4th, paired with new installments of Flashpoint. The last episode of Miami Medical is expected to air on July 2nd.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Miami Medical’s been cancelled or should it have been pulled awhile ago?

I am soooooo bummed!! I love this show and have been telling all of my friends to watch it! I am on the edge of my seat every week and think the show is fantastic! I think they are the victim of a bad time slot….give them another chance!! This show is awesome! It’s like ER meets CSI Miami…fantastic! CBS doesn’t know what they are doing:(
I hate that this show has been cancelled. I really enjoyed it along with Mercy, Trauma and Three Rivers. It seems like they are cancelling many of the good shows in favor of reality shows. This is really disappointing. Miami Medical was one of my favorites.
Seriously sucks they are pulling this show. What did they expect of ratings for a new drama on friday nights??? ER made it huge on thursday nights, CSI etc. Fridays?? Come ON, give it another try on a different day. It’s got everything ER had and more.
CBS, it’s almost like you dangle this carrot in front of your viewers and then take it away. Are you kidding!!!!! You did the same thing with flashpoint! Is this your way of saying go to the other networks? Miami Medical keeps you on the edge of your seat, has some laughs but has some touching moments as well. The actors have tremedous chemistry and you have a writing staff that thinks of everything.
I am really sad that they are already canceling Miami Medical. I was really hoping for a crossover episode or two between Miami Medical and CSI Miami. That would have been the perfect way for CBS to get the word out about Miami Medical. It seems that this show had little chance starting out on Friday night, and with little or no advertising. I never seen a commercial for it prior to it starting, I just happened to be flipping through channels during the 2nd episode and it caught my attention… I was HOOKED right away. The characters are smart… Read more »
It is unfortunate TV stations do not let a program stay on long enough for people to find the show. This show is excellent. The cast works well together and the stories are fast paced and always interesting. This show will be missed. They should leave it on and complete all of the shows they have then make their decision.
I’m a medical series fan. I really enjoyed House, Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. Miami Medical shows others aspects of a life in a ER. The presence and charism of Jeremy Northam is a special spice in the develepmont of this work. So, I’m actually very sad about finishing the serie. I think they would have been an interesting development. By the way, it’s just real, even unfair,
As ppl above I am at loss. This show is just brilliant. Actors are marvelous. I dont know what age group are they aiming but i am 25 and for me Miami Med was So refreshing. No soap, no stupid drama, just real life. Every episode had some heart touching moments, on few i even cried a little (have u ever done that during.. house? or Er or any other medical serie.. ) . Hope show will be bought by other station and resumed with same cast.
I can not believe that Miami Medical is cancelled. What is wrong with CBS? They did not give this show a chance. This is a really good show, with good actors! I don’t think enough people realized it was on. All the good shows seem to be cancelled and the reality shows which have nothing to do with reality make it. I do not understand what has happened to television.
Can’t believe CBS is canceling this show! What a refreshing show to watch every week! CBS is making a HUGE mistake! This is an awesome show. Maybe another network will pick it up and be the winner!
Well, tonight, Fri., June 04, CBS finally came to their senses, by popular demand no doubt judging by all of the above comments, and restored Miami Medical to their programming as well as Flash Point, another very popular show. Now, if they have any common sense, they will also restore Numbers to their Fri. night programming. That should assure a good following for their summer season. Deleteing, hop, skipping, and jumping around certainly will not get them any reliable following at all! Lets face it, nobody is going to make a ‘Fast Buck’ during this economic downturn! Lets hope CBS… Read more »
I am really sorry to see yet another enjoyable CBS show get cancelled. As far as this one, they didn’t seem to give it enough time to bring in the ratings. I think many shows are cancelled way too quickly, some shows aren’t instant successes and have to build and audiance. If they believe enough in a show to put it on the air, they should give it the support that it deserves and advertise it and give it room to grow.
Thank you for alternatives to the news shows on Friday nights. Miami Medical, you will be missed.
I liked this show too. Apparenly too many people in the age group thought it didn’t have their share of drama in it. Thought it suppose to be for all ages, just not the target age that THEY say. Oh well. Such a shame that a good show doesn’t last long these days. Shows you the intelligence that the executives at CBS have.
I am very surprised that they decided to cancel Miami Medical. Finally, a show that is interesting, fast paced and not a soap. The characters are not at each others throats but work in harmony to help people. I guess the dumb populous can’t take a show that doesn’t feature people pulling each other apart either literally or figuratively so therefore the pull the good shows that intelligent people enjoy watching. CBS is notorious for that, example being Judging Amy, Jericho and Joan of Arcadia. All shows that showed some modicum of intelligence so therefore must be cut. Makes me… Read more »
I cannot, and I mean CANNOT, believe they are pulling the plug on this show!!! My whole family always sits down to watch this show on Friday night and now you are pulling the plug? I think one reason your ratings are lower is that the advertisement for this show is non-existent. I have not seen one commercial since the beginning for Miami Medical. This medical show pulls away from the rest and is a great show. The actors, the plots, the excitement are all so original. I think you are making a big mistake pulling this show……a really big… Read more »
