Mom is returning to CBS tomorrow night, and a key member of the cast will be missing. Anna Faris announced her departure from the comedy at the start of season eight production. Allison Janney, Mimi Kennedy, Jaime Pressly, Beth Hall, William Fichtner, and Kristen Johnston remain on the series.
In an interview with ET Online, Janney and other members of the cast spoke about Faris’ departure from the CBS comedy. She said the following:
“It’s a huge loss for the show to not have Anna because she was part of creating a character, Christy, that everyone fell in love with, who was so lovable and warm and gullible and funny and we will miss her so much. I think I’ll miss the most, for me, the relationship between Bonnie and Christy, even though that will still continue. But she won’t be present. That’s what I’ll miss.”
Pressly also spoke about the actress and her leaving Mom:
“I do want to say that it feels like she’s still here because we do talk about the character all the time. And [Janney’s] character is always calling her or vice versa. We still hear the name, we still talk about her. She’s not gone as far as we’re concerned, and we all spent so much time together over the years and love each other and support each other and we all want each other to be happy, so we’re happy for her and we miss her no matter what.”
With Christy out of the house, Janney’s character will have more time to spend with her husband, played by Fichtner, and the couple will have “more time to discover our relationship and that we in fact do like each other very much.”
What do you think? Are you excited to see the return of Mom on CBS? How do you think that the departure of Faris will impact the series?
She was the reason I had watched the show. She is hilarious and believable.
The show must go on ! There all great actresses and Bonny’s husband fits right in . I will miss Christy though .
I’m going to miss seeing Christy but at least they will still talk about her away at University, better than killing her off somehow. I wish all the best to Anna Faris in her future endeavours.
I don’t think the show can survive without Chrissy, I personally am not going to watch it anymore.
They should be able to keep the show going with the other cast members, they are fabulous. Plus if Christy supposedly calls every so often, it keeps her in the loop, still. They won’t be forgetting her that way. We love the show, will definately keep watching it. Hope they don’t cancel it, surely the writer’s can keep it alive and well.
The show will be fine as the rest of the actresses are terrific. Allison Janney, Jaime Pressly and Kristen Johnson are irreplaceable, if this show ends, would love to see them in a spin-off.
Can you say David Caruso?
Just cancel the series
Big mistake. They played so well off of each other.
The whole premise of the show is the interaction btwn Christy and Bonnie. Don’t see how the show can continue without Christy’s presence.
One of my favorite shows and yes, I am looking forward to seeing it tomorrow night!!!
I still believe that Mom will still be a hit despite the fact that Anna Faris is leaving the series.
She will be missed. Won’t be the same.
ITS A GREAT SHOW GREAT WOMAN SO FUNNY THEY MAKE MY NIGHT BETTER I WISH THE BEST 4 ANNA SHE WILL DEFINITELY B MISSED
The show will suffer without Anna. I’ve been losing interest anyway so this may be my breakaway from the show.
The show was brilliantly written for seven seasons. Most shows don’t last that long. The departure of Anna Paris is quite unfortunate as Christy and Bonnie played off each other and somehow, as great as episode 1 of the new season was, it can only last like this for this one more season. Remember Golden Girls? Bea Arthur left the series and it became Golden Palace, but didn’t last but one season. The heart and soul of that show was Dorothy. And the heart and soul of “Mom” is Christy. I can’t conceive of the show lasting into a 9th… Read more »
