In addition to dropping Southland, TNT has also cancelled Monday Mornings. There won’t be a second season for the freshman medical drama.
Monday Mornings follows the lives of the talented yet flawed doctors at the Chelsea General Hospital in Portland, Oregon. The title refers to the tough peer review meetings that are run by the hospital’s sarcastic Chief of Staff. The cast includes Ving Rhames, Jamie Bamber, Jennifer Finnigan, Bill Irwin, Keong Sim, Sarayu Rao, Emily Swallow, and Alfred Molina.
The show started off the season with just 1.36 million viewers and a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That was less than half of what the Dallas premiere lead-in drew with 2.98 million and a 0.8 demo rating.
The numbers for Monday Mornings didn’t get much better as the weeks wore on. The season ended up averaging just 1.39 million viewers and a 0.3 in the demo.
That just wasn’t enough for TNT to want to order a second season and they’ve now officially cancelled it.
What do you think? Are you sorry that TNT has pulled the plug on Monday Mornings? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a bigger audience?
TNT you are idiots for canceling this show. It was one of the best on TV and I know of several friends and family who were just now discovering it. Give it a chance and let people know more about it.
Well, I’m sure not going to watch its replacement (R&I) – guess I’ll be watching more History Channel.
Monday Mornings was one of the quality shows on TV and should be given a second chance with more ads letting people know where to watch it. The networks keep the trash and drop the quality shows.
This was a great show! So sorry to see such a great show get dropped! Really TNT?
i would have to agree with Kimberlee…since House went off the air there are no decent medical shows on. Monday mornings drew you in quickly and made you care about the cast. Personally i think the show would have done better on another network..one that actually cared…Shame on you TNT !!
I usually can’t watch doctor/hospital shows (I used to work in one is why) but Monday Mornings was the exception; I loved it. I guess it’s all about the numbers, not whether the product is any good. I can see Southland getting dropped since the writing dropped off considerably after the first season, but Monday Mornings, what a travesty.
HOW CAN THEY DO THIS??????? What can we do to bring Monday Mornings back?
I am saddened beyond words for losing this show. I think TNT did a hideous job of advertising it. All of us who loved HOUSE have been searching for a new, intelligent medical drama. Why they couldn’t find that audience is beyond me. None of my medical drama junkies even knew Monday Mornings existed until I told them. And then, they were hooked as was I. TNT I have no nice words for you.
I can’t believe they did this.
This was one of the best Medical drama’s that has come out in a long time. It was different, not like all the other Medical drama’s.
PLEASE re-think your decisions. According to what I just read, the ratings got better as the show continued. Why not see what would happen for a second season, might get even better!!
damn. a decent show for decent people to watch. i am heartsick. just sick!!!!!!!
for shame. and trashy old “dallas” goes on? i hope not.
Monday Mornings has not been given a chance. Many people had not even heard of the show due to poor promotion. David Kelly is one of television’s most talented writers. If TNT does not have the intelligence to renew this gritty, well-written and talented cast show TNT’s staff & whomever makes this decision must not have a single brain cell.
I will not watch another TNT show again. Everytime a great show debuts TNT axes it.
Obviously there is no one that has any sense making decisions.
We (my husband & I) are truly disappointed. We never got hooked on ER or the one that Sandra O (cdn) was in and yet we never missed an episode of Monday Mornings if we were going to be out we taped it. Wish you would rethink the cancellation. More and better advertising would be welcomed. We are CNN fans – when we heard than Dr. Gupta was involved that is what prompted us to watch and the first episode got us hooked. Needless to say I think that you are making a mistake.
This was a great show with A+ actors. I’m glad at least for no cliff hangers, but I wanted more.
Shouldn’t have cancelled ‘Monday Mornings’. It was the best show on television.
‘Dallas’ got renewed, but this didn’t, I’m just about done with TV. So much crap on TV, but this gets cancelled…really???
One more reason why cable (or satellite) is irrelevant.
I’m about done with TV.
