New Amsterdam has wrapped its second season on NBC, and fans are looking ahead to season three. The series has already been renewed through a fifth season. Its second season ended differently than it was supposed to though, due to the coronavirus shutdown on production. The season was supposed to end with a hurricane, and a pandemic episode was also not aired due to the current circumstances.
David Schulner, the executive producer of the series, said the following about what fans might see in season three of the NBC drama, per TV Guide:
“All our plans have been blown out of the window. In Season 3 we have to rethink everything. Their priorities are going to change after this pandemic. I don’t think we can force storylines on a new world we’re living in — it would ring false. They’re going to change.”
Fans will see that pandemic episode during season three of New Amsterdam. However, they will not see any new faces pop up during season three.

New Amsterdam is refreshing. It’s unlike any other hospital/dr/medical show that I’ve seen. Although they all have and brings their own spin/spice to their show. I’m not comparing. Just stating an opinion. Anyhow I’m thrilled and over the moon about this show of actors & actresses whose characters that I’ve taken an interest in them..all. Need I say how every person is a joy to know on-screen and that I look forward to seeing what next season has in store for us viewers and fans. New Amsterdam has been the only weekly series that I watch. The writers are genius and I can’t wait each week for Tuesday to come. I wish it would air at 8 pm CST, but I don’t mind staying up later until it airs. The story lines and the issues that New Amsterdam address is beyond anyone’s comprehension. I along with several friends and family members discuss the issues they address each week. We all look forward to Tuesday night as a result. I’m delighted that New Amsterdam will continue for The for next few years. The cast is excellent and the scripts remind me of the days of St. Elsewhere. Of course anybody who remembers high quality television will recall that show. New Amsterdam may soon reach that level.
I too remember that show. I’m also reminded of hill st blues and many more good quality tv shows. It’s not so often that we get good American television like back in those times. However, when we do we need to recognize them as good and wholesome shows & keep’em around for as long as we can by supporting the creativity the cast brings to our tv screen.
I hope they keep the new doctor that was introduced. He is fresh, smart and is a good counter to some of the other parts. I enjoy the show, and when I can’t watch the current airings, I have it on TiVo…..
