The little sitcom that caused a lot of controversy last summer has quietly ended its run. NBC has cancelled Outsourced after one season on the air.
Outsourced follows a US sales manager, Todd Dempsey (Ben Rappaport), who’s assigned to supervise his company’s call center in India. The sitcom also stars Anisha Nagarajan, Diedrich Bader, Parvesh Cheena, Pippa Black, Rebecca Hazelwood, Rizwan Manji, and Sacha Dhawan.
The NBC sitcom started out decently and it looked like NBC might have a keeper on its hands. Last September, Outsourced debuted to a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.49 million viewers. In week two, the demo number fell 22% to a 2.8 rating and 5.85 million viewers but that was still pretty healthy by NBC standards.

Unfortunately, over the course of the season, the ratings just kept dwindling downward. The ratings have gone as low as a 1.4 in the demo with just 2.97 million viewers. Those are horrible numbers for a major network, even NBC.
Outsourced’s season currently averages a 2.1 demo rating and 4.55 million viewers. For NBC, that’s not too bad but the average is only that high because of the early season ratings.
It’s certainly not a shocker than NBC has cancelled Outsourced after just one season. The 22nd and final episode, titled “Rajiv Ties the Bharat, part two,” aired last night.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that there won’t be a second season of Outsourced? Why do you think the TV show didn’t catch on?

What the hell people? We need Season 2! Outsourced is the best serial even have I see!
DANG IT!!! one of the best shows i’ve ever had the motivation to watch then BOOM! cancelled?!?!? NBC should know when a show’s really good or not. I’d suggest, they start season 2 then move to a better time slot! that way they will not have any problems with the ratings. tsk!
…..wtf!
I think this show was very funny, it’s a shame that it has been cancelled.
One of the few shows that was worth saving – and NBC axes it. Truly a shame.
It could have been preachy, but wasn’t. It could have been a parody of a stereotype, but wasn’t. Instead, it showed something much more honest: we are all far more similar than different. The corporate retreat episode should be required viewing.
If you missed the original movie, check it out on netflix.
I just learned that Outsourced was canceled. As an Indian American, I am really upset. I was so happy to finally see South Asians not as just supporting cast, but as the major players in an American TV series. Only the UK has managed to do this as far as I know. It’s sad that some people found it bigoted. I bet that those same people were the ones who wouldn’t come to my house when I was little because it “smelled bad,” or that bounced around me and played offensively on stereotypes of native American tribal rituals. Hello, comedy… Read more »
This show resonated with me because I was in a similar situation. I liked it because it presented Indians’ culture from the point of view of the Indians – those things that we find unnecesarily difficult or just plain unnecessary . With the Indians shown as taken these things deadly seriously, they become real. This is much the way I experienced this in my efforts to understand such a culture myself when I was overseas. The show made these “hangups” endearing rather than bizarre.
No! I loved this show. I really hope this isn’t true. I’m so tired of NBC cancelling all of their good comedy shows but putting all this money into their stupid action type shoes like “The Cape” and do not even get me started on the new sexist shows they have been adding like that playboy one. GRRRRR NBC why are you doing this to me?!!!!!
Its was great entertainment, a fun show. Its nice to see our culture and be able to laugh at ourselfs. Indians are proud people but it takes more than this show to make us feel bad about ourselves. I love it and am very disappointed that its been cancelled
It was a very nice tv show, better than many which are still running.
I learned more about india from this show then I’ll ever learn from reading books…. This is a very entertaining show which is not afraid the show the good… AND the bad side of india… Hope to see season 2
I was waiting…not so patiently, for this to come on for season 2. By far one of the funniest new shows of last year. There wasn’t 1 episode that i didn’t laugh from the belly. I will absolutly miss this sitcom and would love to see it come back!
I really liked it and have been waiting for 2nd Season. If it was on at a better time I think you would have seen improved figures, absolutely everyone who I made watch it has taken all the rest of the episodes I have on video!
The show was very entertaining. It had a great cast and original story lines. They should have moved it to a better timeslot; they would have had plenty of faithful viewers if it had been on at a decent time. We used to watch it on Primetime on Demand so we could catch it earlier in the evening. If you have to get up early for work, no matter how great a show, you can’t stay up to watch it.
What is the matter with NBC. Outsourced was one of the funniest shows out there. If ratings were dwindling that’s because NBC moved it to a crappy timeslot. What a great and funny show. Maybe this show should move to cable too. Hopefully I can get this show on DVD. Another disappointment from NBC!
