Malcolm’s work and family struggles are over. FOX has cancelled the Prodigal Son TV series so there won’t be a third season.
A crime thriller series, the Prodigal Son TV series stars Tom Payne, Lou Diamond Phillips, Aurora Perrineau, Frank Harts, Keiko Agena, Bellamy Young, Halston Sage, Michael Sheen, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Season two guest stars include Christian Borle and Michael Potts. In the story, Malcolm Bright (Payne) is an extraordinary criminal psychologist who knows how killers think and how their minds work. In the 1990s, his father, Dr. Martin Whitly (Sheen), was a notorious serial killer called “The Surgeon” who killed at least 23 people. Since murder is “the family business”, Malcolm uses his twisted genius for good, to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers. He works alongside his longtime mentor, Gil Arroyo (Phillips), and two detectives — no-nonsense Dani Powell (Perrineau) and JT Tarmel (Harts), a born-and-bred New Yorker who questions whether Bright is a psychopath himself. In season two, Malcolm must deal with the repercussions of the first season finale and his father seeks to deepen his relationship with his prodigal son.
Airing on Tuesday nights, the second season of Prodigal Son averages a 0.41 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.09 million viewers in the live+same day ratings. Compared to season one, that’s down by 45% in the demo and down by 38% in viewership.
The last episode of the second season (and the series) will air on May 18th. According to Variety, the decision to cancel the show was a tough one and noted that the network brass just didn’t feel that the ratings justified a third year. It’s not known yet if the show will be shopped to other outlets.

The most interesting show I have watched in years, hats off to the cast and writers. Sad beyond words that it is cancelled.
Finally an innovative, interesting and well written show and they cancel it????? Someone has it alll wrong.
I was looking forward to season 3 of Prodigal Son. It has great writers and actors. I believe they may have lost some of the audience due to gaps between episodes. People like to be able to rely on the shows weekly showings. Please, please reconsider the cancellation and bring it back for season 3.

Horrible, Horrible decision! What are you going to replace this great show with some “woke ass” filler? Bring this back or get rid of the fools making these ridiculous decisions! You will LOSE viewers!
Finally get a real good show I can’t wait to see each week and they axe it…so I can pay for more repeats..l hope Netflix picks it up they know how to put on good shows!

Horrible decision by Fox but hey lets keep Call me Kat .. stupid stupid stupid .. They should have played up Ainsley’s character with the The Surgeons tendencies and should have NEVER brought plastic surgery Jones on as a character .. she was the absolute worst and her acting was terrible! It was such a great show and really could have developed into something .. hopefully another network will pick it up .. It is worthy!
I looked forward to this show every week it aired. Is there anyway to change the night it was on? That made a difference if I watched it on Tuesdays or the day after. Were the after Tuesdays viewer’s tabulated to show people liked this show, but it was up against This is US, that’s a tough show to be up against. I am upset that this show was canceled. Please rethink your choices. This is one of the best shows on regular cable TV, without having to purchase combined channels to watch one. Please bring it back.

Prodigal son bands down is the best show on T. V. My husband doesn’t like much but he loves this show. I am so disappointed it has been cancelled. I have never been more upset about a show being cancelled.
