It doesn’t look like the Sandoval family’s troubles will have a second season. ABC is dropping the Promised Land TV series after next week’s fifth episode. The Good Doctor will return to its Monday night timeslot on February 28th, weeks earlier than planned.
A family drama series, the Promised Land TV show stars John Ortiz, Cecilia Suárez, Augusto Aguilera, Christina Ochoa, Mariel Molino, Tonatiuh Elizarraraz, Andres Velez, Katya Martín, Rolando Chusan, and Bellamy Young. Yul Vazquez, Julio Macias, Ariana Guerra, Kerri Medders, Tom Amandes, Natalia del Riego, and Miguel Angel Garcia recur. The story revolves around two Latinx families vying for wealth and power in California’s Sonoma Valley. Joe Sandoval (Ortiz) is the patriarch of his family who took a small vineyard owned by a former rival and turned it into a wine and beverage empire, Heritage Vineyard. Along the way, he alienated many — including members of his own family. More than just a savvy corporate fighter, Joe can do every job there is to do on a vineyard, but finds himself at a crossroads when an enemy from his past resurfaces. His wife, Lettie (Suarez), will do anything to keep her family intact, despite all its fraying allegiances. Their children are highly capable Veronica (Ochoa), estranged Antonio (Tonatiuh), party-girl Carmen (Molino), erratic Junior (Garcia), and stepson Mateo (Aguilera), the hardworking and highly capable general manager of the vineyard. Meanwhile, immigrants Carlos (Velez), Billy (Chusan), Juana (Martin), and Rosa (Guerra) cross the Mexican border in search of a better life.
The first season of Promised Land averages a 0.19 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.72 million viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). It’s ABC’s lowest-rated scripted series of the season and last night’s episode hit a new low with a 0.15 demo and 1.54 million. While the show does pick up viewers in the delayed viewing, the drama continues to be a very low-rated show.
Production on the show’s 10-episode season will be completed and the remaining episodes will be released each week on Hulu. Episode six will be released on Hulu on March 1st. As to the chances of a second season, Deadline lists the series as cancelled.
“Promised Land is a beautifully executed and tremendously entertaining series of which everyone at our company is extremely proud,” an ABC rep said in a statement to TVLine. “We know it has a passionate audience that is very invested in this show, and those viewers will be able to stream all subsequent episodes exclusively on Hulu every Tuesday for the rest of the season.”
What do you think? Have you watched the Promised Land TV show on ABC? Do you wish that this series would have been renewed for a second season?
I enjoyed The Promised La d & wished it would of continued. Please bring it back on.
Loved promised land, it was interesting, had an intricate plot. The characters were rich and well-acted. Beautiful settings and timely drama. I will miss it. So much better than ridiculous Good Dr. I am crushed!
I LOVE this show. The entire premise is great and finally a new show came on a major network that wasn’t a show about doctors, police, lawyers, the FBI, a sitcom featuring halfwits with the same stale jokes and canned laughter, CSIs, reality shows that are anything but, or gruesome investigations into crime, murderers, embezzlers, and the list goes non. The actors of PL were excellent! Each character melded together with each other as if they were truly related. ALL women were stunning and SMART, and the men were handsome, courteous to the women and had ambition. Yes this was… Read more »
Well said, Ms. Fitzgerald, well said!
I am disappointed that again a major network has canceled a show thar showed an hispanic family in a significant role. Do they not know that Hispanics is the largest ethnic group in the country. I will start watching shows on Netflix or other cable stations again. I thought the show had a beautiful cast and a beautiful plot.
I know, right!
Another new show bites the dust. Promise Land deserves to be given a chance.
I agree!
I really enjoyed te show and what to see how the family changes
I’m so sad that Peomise Land us cancelled! It’s the best new drama series in a long time. I love it so much! I don’t get it! There are so many shows that are not that good, that keep getting renewed and networks don’t give new shows a chance of getting loyal viewers! A partial season is not enough time to give a new show a chance. PLEASE, PLEASE, Hulu or Netflix PLEASE pick up this series and save it! ABC did this to Nashville & thankful CMT stepped up and saved it, to give us a few more seasons.… Read more »
I agree and I am with you! I am Hispanic & loved that they finally had a show with Hispanic actors! I also think they were so beautiful & handsome. Victoria was stunning as well as Carlos! Please bring it back! Finally, there was a series worth looking forward to. That and All American are great series & I looked forward to watching on Hulu every week! I beg of you, bring it back.
We loved Promised Land. Excellent series. Hopefully they will reconsider.
I was sad to hear that Promised Land got cancelled, I did look forward to watching it every week. I loved that this was a show was about the Hispanic culture, we definitely don’t have too many of these on the network. They can cancel this good show while they keep some of these ridiculous realty shows going, go figure. I really hope they can reconsider or maybe Hulu or Netflix will pick up for another season. Thanks.
I agree
I LOVE this show and look forward to it each week. Once you start watching it, you will be hooked and involved in the lives of the characters, wondering what will happen next. PLEASE renew this show. Reality TV shows no more, give me something I can invest in that is worth watching.
I agree!!!
An actual drama with well-developed characters and story lines. Immigrant/Latino stories to be told.
Too bad ABC doesn’t see this for the gem that it is. Apparently they would rather air tired out, interchangeable hospital or police-type dramas that you can find on any network at any time. Oh, let’s not forget about reality TV shows – we could use more of those – NOT.
I agree! Let’s petition!!!
Great show, can’t believe it’s being cancelled. Will watch on HULU
I agree! Will Hulu have a new episode of The Promised land?
Lions this show ! It’s amazing to see a fully rounded show of the immigrant experience – it is a great story that deserved to have a PR push behind it in order to succeed. Give it a second season and add some ads for it.
I agree! Bring back with more episodes!
Love ‘Promised Land’. The actors are amazing and the story is very entertaining. I would definitely watch more seasons! Renew this show!!!
Please give this show an opportunity for people to catch on to the story line and how awesome the actors were on this show. Please bring this show back. Try it on another network and give it a chance to catch on. A disappointed viewer.
I agree!
I agree! I wonder if it’s based on a true story?
In love with this show, look forward to watching the rest of the season on Hulu . So glad Hulu picked it up to finish this season and hoping they keep it for a few more.
