TNT has decided not to renew their Proof TV show for a second season. The life-after-death drama has been cancelled after one short season of 10 episodes.
On Proof, Doctor Carolyn “Cat” Tyler (Jennifer Beals) lost her son, saw her marriage end, and became estranged to her teenage daughter. Looking for purpose, Cat is persuaded by cancer-stricken billionaire Ivan Turing (Matthew Modine) to search for evidence that death is not the end and this takes her on a deeply personal and emotional journey. The rest of the cast includes David Sutcliffe, Joe Morton, Edi Gathegi, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Callum Blue, and Annie Thurman.
Debuting in June, Proof got off to a slow start with a 0.37 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.66 million viewers. The numbers didn’t get better as the weeks progressed and were often worse. The season ended up averaging a 0.31 in the demo with 2.12 million viewers. It was one of the lowest-rated scripted shows on the cable channel.
What do you think? Did you like the Proof TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled? Would you have watched a second season?
One of my favorite dramas ever. The last episode had me on the edge of my seat! Canceling series with such an exciting cliffhanger is cruel. I thought at one time that TNT was a great station. Why can’t you give shows a chance with more than ten episodes. If this show doesn’t come back I won’t be coming back to watch TNT anymore!
I am not going to watch anything new from you either. Every thing tnt gets canlces it.
That’s just a real shame. This was was great show. I thought J. Beals did a great job. Sorry to lose another TV show that actually made the viewer think.
That is a great show, I liked it because it is smart. It had a great, almost believable plot that actually made the audience THINK. What a shame, simply a crying shame.
Well, I will not be watching any NEW shows you put out. You are on the same list as lifetime after they KILLED Witches of East End. You SUCK!
What is the show about
Boooooooooooooo! I thought this show got better with each episode. Again, I say Boooooooooooooooooooo!
Sunny, Speaking of Longmire – do you notice the episodes are longer? Not just 44 minutes. Now they are 58, 1.02, etc. They’ve upgraded all the “props/staging” too.
I’m sad to see this show go. It has great characters and i think it would have built up in season 2 with more viewers. It was a unique concept and one i enjoyed watching.
hey you are not renewing proof. ok but what its the real reason. i really think another year of a good show compared to some of the garbage we have to watch would have been nice, but hey someone got all people who like the show to just keep begging. we are so stupid. just stop saying it is cancelled. better yet take out an ad in the paper. we are getting ready to put a gun to our heads. thank you. big, huge, mistake once again. chicago code, huge mistake. jennifer beals is getting kicked in the butt.
Here we go again. Good shows with a terrific premise get axed. Geez, I really liked the characters and the acting. It did not get a lot of hype and I bet most people didn’t even know it was on. Now three shows I started watching are no longer. Forever, Complications and now Proof.
Thank heavens Netflix picked up Longmire. That is one of the best shows ever. Even better on Netflix as there are no ads. The story line now can move smoothly without interruptions. That’s the future, I hope.
let it die already.
What? Is TNT crazy?? They should not have cancelled Proof.
There was a cliff hanger in the end of season 1.
Wish they had not cancelled it.
someone should throw them off the cliff
I would like to know when the show
is on the air.
I agree…. this was a great show w/a NEW story, a GREAT CAST, and now it’s been cancelled? What’s wrong w/TNT? I’ve decided NOT to get interested in of the new shows now… It just seems like anything that’s meant for ADULTS WITH BRAINS that work gets cancelled while all that crap out there that a 10 yr old would enjoy, or worse yet something that’s filthy or is all about gang bangers gets renewed yr after yr. Sooooo, to the networks and all those advertisers…. I won’t bother watching ANY of the commercials from now on and will just… Read more »
Since there is no proof of ‘life after death’ either way, it was a dumb concept with an appeal to only a very limited group. I watched every show and it was well done, but really had nowhere to go from the beginning. Nice try, but don’t try to present a fantasy as reality.
