Sex and the City ended after six seasons on HBO with Carrie Bradshaw finally getting her man, but Darren Starr is now speaking out about the series finale, and he is not happy with how the series ended.
In fact, he is calling the end of Sex and the City a “betrayal.” The Huffington Post shared Starr’s comments, made in a recent interview.
He said:
“If you’re empowering other people to write and produce your show, you can’t … say certain things. At a certain point, you’ve got to let them follow their vision. … But I think the show ultimately betrayed what it was about, which was that women don’t ultimately find happiness from marriage. Not that they can’t. But the show initially was going off script from the romantic comedies that had come before it. That’s what had made women so attached.”
If Darren Starr had his way, Carrie Bradshaw would have walked off on her own, but then there would not have been anything storyline wise to create the two movies that followed the series.
Were you a fan of Sex and the City? Did the finale feel like a betrayal to you? Tell us what you think.
I personally from a male point of view thought the series finale was right on target for the story line. I have also enjoyed both movies and I’m looking forward to the third one, which I have a feeling is going to be along the lines of Divorce and Pregnancy causing a single mother issue as well as hitting Carrie with something she never anticipated, a child of her own. Whatever they come up with I’m sure it will be just as great as all the others.
Most women are not into the women’s ~libber view of life. There are many ways to be ’empowered’ as a woman. Carrie was always a romantic at heart. Which most men do not understand. The ending was perfect. If Carrie & Big had not ended up together, there would have been a VERY unhappy female audience.
I just watched the movie after a few years and I thought that it was great. The wedding that didn’t happen then the one that did at City Hall…Carrie and Big were meant to be together!
