‘Tis the season for toughening up. Today, CMT announced the new season of Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge will premiere on January 3rd.
This will be the third season of the series which pits athletic contestants against each other in a series of arduous physical challenges.
The new season arrives with a bit of controversy. When shooting for season three began this summer, Deadline reported the show’s crew went on strike, demanding health and pension benefits. It appears the parties reached a solution as the strike ended a few weeks later and shooting continued.
Season three will feature a “special military-themed episode” among its 18 new episodes.
Here’s the official announcement:
NASHVILLE – November 11, 2015 – In honor of Veteran’s Day, CMT announced today that for the first time America’s greatest heroes – our military – will be first to tackle the formidable Skullbuster when the hit series “Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge” returns Sunday, January 3 at 8:00-9:00 p.m. ET/PT. Television’s most physically demanding competition series is back with 18 all-new episodes featuring world-renowned athletic contenders from across the obstacle course racing world including Spartan and CrossFit, power lifters, professional athletes, MMA fighters and everyday heroes.
The new season kicks off with a special military-themed episode as brothers in arms face off in a series of intense challenges. In the end, only one Veteran will make it to the final challenge designed by Steve Austin himself, the Skullbuster. The half-mile obstacle course is the most grueling one yet, and only the toughest of the tough will make it to the end for a shot at winning $10,000. The military Veterans will also compete for a chance to win an additional $10,000 for the charity of his choice.”
