Christopher Meloni had a long run on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit but his FOX sitcom didn’t last. Surviving Jack has been cancelled after one season.
Surviving Jack revolves around Dunlevy family. A no-nonsense father (Christopher Meloni) starts tough-love parenting his teenage kids (Connor Buckley and Claudia Lee) while his wife returns to college (Rachael Harris). Others in the cast include Kevin Hernandez and Tyler Foden.
The series was originally supposed to have 13 episodes this season but the network cut the order down to eight installments. That’s never a good sign.
Surviving Jack has been drawing poor ratings on Thursday nights, following American Idol. The six episodes that have aired so far have averaged a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.35 million total viewers.
The series finale is scheduled for next Thursday, May 15th.
What do you think? Are you sorry that there won’t be a second season of Surviving Jack? If you ran the network, would you have cancelled this sitcom?
I am very disappointed in this decision. I rarely watch television these days but really looked forward to seeing this show. The 90’s music and comedy had me laughing out loud every week. I have not laughed out loud for any sitcoms since Seinfeld ended. Great show and cast but needed a better time slot. How can we convince fox to give it a shot in the fall season?
I’m so disappointed. This show was great! Please bring it back!
Noooooo!!! Please keep this show on! It is hilarious!!!!!!
I absolutely love this show! It made me laugh out loud. I rarely find a sitcom that I truly enjoy! I look forward to it every week. I am so mad at Fox right now I may never start watching another series of theirs again!
Surviving Jack is a great show!! I literally laughed out loud every week. I laughed, I cried, I loved it. They’re making a mistake!
Surviving Jack is one of the best comedies to air in a very long time. Each week it gets better and better. I seriously laugh out loud when watching this show, something I have not done in a very long time. The pilot was not the best I must admit but it has been a solid show ever since. Please do not cancel the best new comedy to come along in years. Put it at a decent time, following a decent show. Start it in the fall, not the spring when most of america is finally thawing out and enjoying… Read more »
This is one of the funniest shows on tv. Chris Meloni plays this character so well and his take on the dad is hilarious. I look forward to this show every week. What a shame Fox didn’t give this show a fair shot!!
Very disappointed by this FOX! This, as many have wrote, is a very funny show, not only funny but very relatable to the demographic. When the show was not being funny it was actually giving us life lessons (those times in the show when a moment happens between mother and son or father and son). I for one found those moments to be quite good and well written. This mistake is all on you Fox, you have something good in the palm of your hands.
WHAT?!!! First, they take the best comedy to come along in FOREVER, start it in the Spring when people are out and about and not watching as much tv, give it a whole six weeks, and then CANCEL it??? OMG! This is absolutely the funniest show on television. Give it a fair shot.
What is wrong with people? This is the funniest sit-com in decades!! Talk about laughing out loud–it happens the entire episode. When I ask people if they’ve seen it, the usual response is they’ve never heard of it. That is all Fox’s fault–they obviously, didn’t want it to succeed. They needed to advertise it more. It’s a shame it didn’t run during football season because that audience would be sure to love this program. Fox is insane for cutting the episodes AND, especially, cancelling it!!
move the time slot. best show to come along in ages! i watch in “on demand” every week.
I agree that this is a great show and should be given a chance. I’m really sad they cut it down to only 8 episodes too. I looked forward to this every Thursday and reminds me of the good ol days of TGIF when you could watch comedies with your kids. Please bring it back!!
Nooooooo! This is such a funny and realistic family show. I crack up every time I watch it. It’s so nice to watch a show where the parents are still together and actually care about there kids. It’s a modern day “Happy Days” show. Please bring it back!!!!
this is a great show. One of the few intelligent new shows on a major network. I really really wish the network would give people a chance to discover it. Appealing cast and good dialog.
This is such a great comedy!!! Please bring it back and give it a chance to pick up more viewers. Maybe a decent time slot would be helpful. FOX has a whole Sunday night devoted to stupid cartoon “family” shows but won’t give a funny show with a great cast a chance to develop a following. Another chance for a great show PLEASE!!!!!!!
