CBS cancelled SWAT at the end of last week. Series star Shemar Moore (above) did not waste any time before speaking out about the police drama’s abrupt cancellation. *Status update below.
Also starring Alex Russell, Jay Harrington, Kenny Johnson, David Lim, and Patrick St. Esprit, the SWAT series was inspired by the 1975 TV show and the 2003 film of the same name. The story follows the Special Weapons And Tactics unit of the Los Angeles Police Department.
In recent weeks, the renewal of the series seemed all but assured. Talks were ongoing, and the only issue was the licensing fee from Sony Pictures TV. According to Moore, the cast was also assured, week after week, that a seventh-season renewal would happen.
Moore said the following about the cancellation of the CBS series, per THR:
“It makes no sense. We’ve done nothing wrong. We did everything that was asked for.
SWAT is the most diverse show on CBS. CBS, when I got hired to be Hondo on SWAT, was getting a lot of flak for lack of diversity. If I post this, and I think I might, I will get in a lot of trouble with CBS because I’m calling them out. Because they’ve been wonderful to me for 26 out of my 29-year career. But to abruptly get told that you’re canceled when you led us to believe last week — and the week before, and the week before that — that we would have some semblance of a season seven to at least say goodbye, if not continue. And to abruptly be told, ‘You’re done.’
I will be fine, but I’m upset because I busted my whole entire a** to prove that I could do this, and I did prove that I could do this. I understand it’s not personal — it’s business — but I still have faith that SWAT will live to see another day. So I’m asking my homies, my fans and my baby girls, and the rest of the world who follow me or follow the show, follow the cast, my brothers and my sisters: Make some noise. And let them know that canceling SWAT is a mistake.”
The sixth season of SWAT ends on May 19th.
What do you think? Do you want to see a seventh season of SWAT? Do you want another network to pick up this series?
*Update: The CBS series has been revived and renewed for a seventh and final season.
Please do not cancel SWAT !!! It has a lot of good actors who play on that show.
Please keep it going !!!
Best ever pleaseother chanel pik them iam so mad to cancel such a great show
SWAT is the only tv show I watch on a regular basis, and I love it since the very beginning! It’s entertaining & relevant! I am super disappointed about the abrupt cancellation of such a marvelous show and hope another network will pick it up!!!
Best series on TV. PLEASE dont cancel it
It’s coming back! CBS changed their minds!
I am very disappointed that Swat has been cancelled. It is a great show and I looked forward to it every week.I hope this is just financial and not race related and they can still work it out.
It is financial. CBS doesnt produce it. So costs are higher than other shows.
I love this show. I am so disappointed. Please bring it back
I love SWAT and Shemar Moore and I couldn’t be more disappointed in CBS for canceling this excellent show! I hope another network will do the smart thing and pick it up so the show can go on!
Do not cancel – fan favorite!! Hope another network picks up – ratings are high – makes no sense. Listen to the fans!!!
DON’T CANCEL SWAT!! THAT’S MY SHOW AND I DON’T LIKE IT – WHEN PEOPLE ALREADY KNOW THAT THEY GOING TO CANCEL THE SHOW THE WHOLE DAM TIME!!! I KNOW EVERYBODY HATE’S THIS. AT LEAST SOME OTHER NETWORK COULD’VE PICKED THEM UP!! THEY HAVE FAMILIES ETC!!
Do not cancel!
The actors and show employees deserve an explanation since they were assured the show would continue. I’m also sorry for the loyal viewers. I lost interest the last couple seasons and stopped watching, but I hate it when a fan favorite gets cancelled. I personally don’t like the use of the term “baby girls” – sexist. I know people won’t like my comment but that’s how I feel. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
I will boycott CBS if they do not have a
season 7 of SWAT!!!
I am again very disappointed in a network that would cancel a great and entertaining show. Don’t start a show if you can’t finish it. I will not entertain getting involved again watching a series from a network that will leave me high and dry
PLEASE PLEASE do not cancel this great show!!
Disapointed sure they will put some realty gone wrong or gidh knows what in it’s place CBS is getting worse all the time. The actors are amazing and the Swat show is so good . WHY CBS WHY CANCEL
