CBS cancelled SWAT at the end of last week. Series star Shemar Moore (above) did not waste any time before speaking out about the police drama’s abrupt cancellation. *Status update below.
Also starring Alex Russell, Jay Harrington, Kenny Johnson, David Lim, and Patrick St. Esprit, the SWAT series was inspired by the 1975 TV show and the 2003 film of the same name. The story follows the Special Weapons And Tactics unit of the Los Angeles Police Department.
In recent weeks, the renewal of the series seemed all but assured. Talks were ongoing, and the only issue was the licensing fee from Sony Pictures TV. According to Moore, the cast was also assured, week after week, that a seventh-season renewal would happen.
Moore said the following about the cancellation of the CBS series, per THR:
“It makes no sense. We’ve done nothing wrong. We did everything that was asked for.
SWAT is the most diverse show on CBS. CBS, when I got hired to be Hondo on SWAT, was getting a lot of flak for lack of diversity. If I post this, and I think I might, I will get in a lot of trouble with CBS because I’m calling them out. Because they’ve been wonderful to me for 26 out of my 29-year career. But to abruptly get told that you’re canceled when you led us to believe last week — and the week before, and the week before that — that we would have some semblance of a season seven to at least say goodbye, if not continue. And to abruptly be told, ‘You’re done.’
I will be fine, but I’m upset because I busted my whole entire a** to prove that I could do this, and I did prove that I could do this. I understand it’s not personal — it’s business — but I still have faith that SWAT will live to see another day. So I’m asking my homies, my fans and my baby girls, and the rest of the world who follow me or follow the show, follow the cast, my brothers and my sisters: Make some noise. And let them know that canceling SWAT is a mistake.”
The sixth season of SWAT ends on May 19th.
What do you think? Do you want to see a seventh season of SWAT? Do you want another network to pick up this series?
*Update: The CBS series has been revived and renewed for a seventh and final season.
Everything is about
This show is one of my favorites. I definitely would like to see it renewed for many seasons to come.
This is by far one of the best shows on TV Period. Why in the world would you cancel this fantastic show! Boo.
What Shemar said. I live in England and watch live every week. I speak for the UK because they won’t care as Season 6 may not have arrived yet. Stick SWAT on Paramount with the now requisite F words like Seal Team. CBS is getting duller. They’re hanging onto the same old duds like NCIS. SWAT still has that fresh look and approach with every new episode. What were CBS thinking? They weren’t because some executives are a fleck of dust and cannot tick the correct boxes. Got something to do with all the shootings in the USA. I guess… Read more »
BRING THE SHOW BACK!
Bring Swat back please a wonderful show
In the last season or two, SWAT has steadily gotten better. The story lines have been more exciting, more involved, with better scripts, and have kept viewers on the edge of their seats like never before! Shemar Moore & his cast are fantastic! Why on earth would a show that is so well done be canceled? It makes no sense! For myself, it’s one of 3 shows I very much look forward to watching each week! PLEEEEZ keep it going, CBS!
SWAT is NOT CANCELLED! Just saw this news on another site. It’ll be a short season 7 but it it’s something. YAY!
I always followed S.W.A.T. since it started but felt the show ran it’s course and I was tuning in less. Sad to see it cancelled love Sherman Moore. After his post on the cancellation it pushed me in the opposite direction. It’s not about doing something wrong sometimes it just comes down to cost and advertising. It’s not about we were diverse look how far we brought you network checking boxes. So for me I am done. Not interested in going back not watching season 7 I am not a box checker nor care about filling certain aspects to check… Read more »

Please keep S.W.A.T. on the air, it is one of the best shows on T.V.
CBS just reversed their decision and uncanceled it!
Keep the show or get picked up by another network ala Magnum PI
SWAT is a great series and really should be renewed. Glad to hear that there will be a seventh season…but looks like that will be the last unless the ratings go up.
